PC games and sound problems

I'm just wondering if this is common problem when I Play PC games - When I'm in a room or anywhere for that matter and another character is speaking and I move to face away from the character the sound of the dialogue from that particular character lowers. This can be annoying espically if it's in the middle of an action sequence and my squadmates are following me but I can't hear what they are saying!

I have noticed this on a few PC games I have played recently (e.g Call of Duty 4 and Crysis) Is this a normal thing or I do have a problem with my PC?

Check in sound settings that your speaker configuration matches what you have. If you only have 2 speakers then make sure its not trying to use 5.1 surround sound.
