O/S Daily Monday 5 October 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge, DS1 is getting ready for work also. DS2 settled and happy.
Still dark and wet underfoot here. More rain forecast.
Yesterday we had roast chicken dinner which was lovely, some LO's so tonight I'll cook some sausages, then we'll have LO mash, veg, yorkshires and gravy.
Back to work today - quite like the getting back to a more normal routine.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, I like the routine too!
The rain cleared yesterday and it was a very pleasant afternoon, I repotted all the houseplants as they had a terrible case of fruit flies. I put the new soil in the microwave for a few minutes to make sure there weren't any bugs in it, I'll just have to see if they survive now.
Another 4 day week for me, I'm taking some time back on Friday as it's an in service day. It was either that or do 3 online courses at home, not sure I have the concentration for that!
Hope everyone's well and has a very happy Monday. Take care. XX14 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. We never got the promised showers yesterday, nor is any rain forecast for today. We are usually the ones getting all the rain so I am sure we will pay for this dry spell before long!
My appointment for my flu jab went like a dream. I was 5 minutes early and back out again before my actual appointment time! As I had to stay on the premises for 5/10 mins afterwards "just in case" I browsed the Xmas gift aisle and came out with quite a few stocking fillers for various people, I haven't had a flu jab for years but went along with the advice this time in view of the virus. As yet no ill effects other than a slightly sore arm when I touch it.
After a weekend of sloth I suppose I ought to address one or two jobs today and the insides of the windows are still waiting to be cleaned! I hate that job.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care, stay safe and stay sane! x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -

Good morning everyone
I can't hear any rain this morning so I think we have some respite from it. Yesterday was just dreadful weather-wise but it made me very grateful for a dry and warm home.
I made a practice coffee and walnut cake yesterday and it turned out really well so I was very happy and so was my family. Steve will be 60 next month and as this cake is his favourite he asked for it for his birthday. My family have said they will pop in for a cuppa and cake for his special day so I am going to make a couple of different ones as well. It felt really good to be back in the kitchen baking again.
Today we have a load of mince defrosting so I will make a Bolognese sauce and a keema pie. I will put on some happy music and start chopping veggies in a bit as it takes me a while and I can sit down and do it. Somehow we have ended up with three large bunches of celery in the fridge so I will investigate recipes for soup or something similar to use some of it up.
My knitting is cracking on. I have made three different crown hats including one for my new great-niece and have another one on my needles. I have ordered a couple of new hat patterns from Ebay too as I am really enjoying making them at the moment. It makes a change from toys anyway.
Right, I hear life stirring upstairs so I will go and put the kettle on. Hope you all have a great day despite the weather. Take care xx

Morning everyone. It's still dark'ish and wet here. Not very inviting! It's another hanging about kind of day as I'm expecting a delivery via a courier so have no idea when it will arrive. Yesterday I ordered a 'happy birthday' cake stencil which was oddly difficult to find. DM's crossword friend turns 75 next week so a cake is needed. No-one is a fan of the new trend for piles of sweet buttercream so it'll be icing sugar with a side plate of cream.Last night I came across a photograph of myself and a friend taken on my first visit to Oz in 1979. Seeing it was a shock as I'd always been led to believe that I was fat then and I wasn't! I'm perched on the bonnet of a car with my friend standing beside me, we both look fab. I sent it to her last night via WhatsApp which delighted her too. We'll catch up soon.My flu jag is booked for 17 October at the local health centre, the surgery is dealing with the extra group being giving the jag this year. Now it's time to wish you all a Happy Monday.13

Morning all and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
After a weekend of heavy rain, it is dry but more rain forecast for later. I wrote dry but it still feels damp. A huge difference from the warmth a few weeks ago but at least we had that lovely spring and late summer. Many of my friends really like autumn and winter but I don't. At least I can keep warm and dry, thank goodness for fluffy socks.
If the rain holds off, I'll rake leaves but I think the weatherman may be right.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning
Its Monday wash day again so a couple of loads to go on and a dishwasher to empty ....my excitement cup runneth over.
2 zoom sessions to get through later. I have a pretty low boredom threshold with online stuff so will be glad when that's over for another month.
Food tonight will be baked fish with lemon and garlic. Really need to have some good days after filo cherry pie and caramel sauce yesterday.
Weather looks pretty grey and ominous again so washing will be drying inside....I'm too tight to use a tumble dryer
Best crack on have a good day all12 -

Morning all! I dropped a cup of tea over my keyboard last week and have been trying to dry it out in a bag of rice for the last few days. My replacement keyboard is a nightmare, I'm not used to it, and it has keys you have to really bash to make them work. Very annoying. And it keeps missing spaces and adding 'i's' and 'u's' to everything for no reason. Writing a post is a bit of a trial. It rained so heavily over the last few days that we put a tarp over the pergola skeleton because the wood was just getting soaked. It's drying out a bit now waiting for some dry weather to finish it and my material for the sides has arrived so I'd better make space in our junk living room to make them.I got fed up with the garage yesterday and made some makeshift shelves using offcuts and balancing them on two old chairs I'd kept for a project and have stuffed everything on them. I was getting sick of walking in there, having no room to turn around and not being able to get to something without moving ten other things. It's the story of my life, no storage solutions! And the roof is leaking in there where the previous owners replaced an asbestos sheet for a plastic one so I've been strategically placing buckets around the place which don't help with ease of access. And the porch was leaking too, need to put some sealer on it. I woke up yesterday morning to the sound of running water that was very loud and my first thought was, don't bloody tell me the roof is leaking now too, but it was only the OH having a shower....Today I'm going to make a start on sorting out the living room, I've been keeping the cardboard boxes for things because i know we have to empty the house at some point for a rewire but they're kind of taking over now, because i also have a lot that is intended for the garden. Getting rid of them will be a start. I'd better book another tip visit.Nelski, I watched the one with the chickn kiev in filo, looked absolutely gorgeous, so as you;ve given it a ringing endorsement, I'll do that next week
camelot, sure they weren't fungus gnats? Gers, that's the beauty of old photos, you never look as bad as you think you did ...dumpling, your crown hats sound cool! good luck Hester...Nanny, i love a custard slice, I used to work in a bakery and nothing beats a fresh one with crispy pastry....or one from Princes in Ponty with a little bit of jam in the bottom....Hey all reading along, stay dry and fluffy, merino wool socks Monday!

Morning all,
Seems ages since I was here last, but It can't have been that long. Gers, I would love to be able to say that I never looked as bad in photos as I thought I did, but sadly in my case, the camera never lies.
I ended up having to take a church service yesterday, (don't ask) and it wore me out, so not planning to do much today. So far the weather is a lighter shade of grey, but I'm not intending to go out in it.
So that I can appease my conscience, I may tidy out the top drawer of my COD. It gets churned up on a regular basis so if I'm ever to find anything in it again something must be done. I keep putting it off, but really it doesn't take long once I bite the bullet. So.......here goes.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I dusted once. It came back. I'm not falling for that one again.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Have trouble remembering how to fly.10
