It is normal for a provisional driving licence not to be acceptable.  That is pretty much across the board.

I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

Ok....well this might be common knowledge to IFAs but has come as a massive surprise to me and my hubby.

Do you have any idea why a provisional photocard is not acceptable? It would just help my own mental state at the moment if I understood the reason why the rules are like this.

Reading the link to Halifax posted posted earlier it says a photocard driving licence, to me a photo driving licence is a full licence.
Do you know on what basis its not being accepted ?
Exactly! Thank you. At least me and my hubby are not the only ones that think this.

We were told by broker that a provisional driving license is unacceptable and it must be a full license...that's all.
Im afraid you have misunderstood my post.
I posted that a photo driving licence imo is a full licence and not a provisional.

Despite the above, I asked on twitter if a UK provisional licence was accepted and the reply was they do accept it, as long as its a current one.

As I said earlier on what basis was it rejected, could you not use it as a proof of address as stated in the Halifax link posted, maybe show the broker the list.

Wonderful. I despair....because we all know how many driving skills are required to repay a mortgage. 🙄

Right - well I won't be back here as I must get back to writing a letter to my MP to ask if they can get HMPO to fast track the passport renewal, in between caring for a new baby on my own and worrying about a house sale falling through. Excuse me.

Sorry - I missed the somehow missed the rest of your post there.

It's the name ID bit that we are having difficulty with. Address ID is fine- we have a bank statement for that.

Interesting that you asked on Twitter, I hadn't thought of that but I spoke with Halifax this morning and they also said current provisional photocard is fine. Do you have a link to the tweet?

Catface - If you have a new baby then you probably have a Child Benefit statement which is an acceptable item for ID purposes with Halifax.

Thanks however the child benefit is set up in my name but it's my husband that has the problem.

I suppose the logic might be that a full licence is better as it proves that somebody matching the photo had turned up for the tests. Though the likes of me passed our test before photos were used...

There are no general rules about what ID ought to be acceptable, everybody is entitled to have their own policies.

As I said before the link lists a provisional is ok for proof of address but not for proof of identity, the response didn't specify what a provisional licence would be acceptable for.
