Default following VT - Help

Hi guys,
I had a balloon HP with FCA automotive which I decided to a voluntary termination on the 13th Feb this year.
I phoned the company and arranged the VT and was told there was a outstanding balance of around £350 for "Value added products" but the vehicle also needed an inspection for any damaged, increased mileage etc. so the full amount would be confirmed following the inspection. This was confirmed by email on the 18th Feb.

Vehicle was then inspected 3rd March and they gave me a price for the work which I disputed and on the 4th April they apologised for the delay returned with a total fee of around £550 which I then paid the same day.

The default has been registered from the 18th Feb for the £350, looking back at the email sent that day it does say if it's not paid in 28 days it may result in a default, however like I was told I could do in the call I waited until the inspection costs were confirmed and paid it all at once.
Obviously there was a delay from the original call, inspection and dispute which took it over the 28 day period.

I plan on calling FCA and disputing tomorrow but I'm just wondering if anyone has had any similar experience and has any tips?
Can they simply remove the default as I was waiting for the full bill or am I just going to be rebuffed as I missed the original 28 day deadline?
The default has only now come to light as I was declined for a mortgage application because of it, they've made no attempt to contact me since the 4th April.

Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
Firstly you cannot call the FCA to dispute anything, the FCA are the regulator, day to day running of compliance is dealt with by the FOS and the ICO.
Before any of them can be involved, you must make an official written complaint to the company concerned, they then have to follow the complaints process, which can take 8 weeks, and then issue you with a final responce.
Only if you remain unhappy can you escalate the matter to the FOS and/or the ICO.

    Hey,
"FCA automotive services" are the lender in this situation, didn't mean FCA as in financial conduct authority,

Appologies, my mistake, however the advice still stands.

Update on this for anyone who is in a similar situation,
The lender has admitted fault and has returned to the credit reference agencies to get the default removed
