Wow.If you have nothing constructive to say, which your judgemental and out of place post is, then why post?I highly doubt that a 4 yr old, which is what she is and will be when she returns, will miss out of much especially when you consider all they're doing right now and they usually just watch movies the final week before the Christmas holidays anyway.0 -

NoodleDoodleMan said:"Depending on what happens the time to bring this up is if or when you receive a fine for their absence."The girl is not of age to require to attend school under statute, nor will she be on return - so, unless I'm not up to speed on these rules, how could a fine be imposed ?

Given its a foreign trip in December for two weddings in quick succession I will take a punt its going to be somewhere on the Indian subcontinent. No country there is on the UK "OK" list and the rates in some countries are still high.
I also question the wisdom of arranging foreign trips when international borders can close again at short notice if required. But as I said, each to their own.1 -
Being a wedding it could of been arranged years in advance and it could be anywhere thats warm in December, or even cold to be honest.
Perhaps the OP is just tackling one thing at a time, see if its ok to take the child out of school, then see in 2 months time if travel is a viable option, is the country allowing gathering for weddings etc...
Nothing wrong with planning and looking ahead.

Putting aside whether it's safe to travel, I would recommend ignoring some of the comments on here when you go for your interview.
The government tells us that it prioritises keeping schools open above almost all else. If you were to go into school and say that children in Reception don't learn much and watch videos at Christmas when staff are doing their utmost to help catch up on months missed while putting all Covid practices in place, you wouldn't be very well received. ☹️1 -
So updating the thread as I forgot to earlier in the year. We managed to get away for 5 weeks last year, 2 school holiday weeks + 3 and fortunately because of the school closures our daughter didn't miss out on anything during the 10 day self isolation period. Everything was being done online. The school had no problem with us taking the time off. In fact we just filled out the form and they didn't get back to us, they would have if there was an issue. Yes my daughter fell behind during that 3 week period, but not too much. With some long days and work on holiday she's back to where the rest of her class are at. Most of the learning is using youtube videos and some online interactive tools. Very little interaction with the teachers except for a weekly assembly.0

Good for you!0

If I'd seen this thread in advance I would have said like others have that a child does not become what is called 'compulsory school age' until the term after their 5th birthday. For those with Sept-Dec birthdays this would be from Jan onwards. You therefore would not be subject to any penalty notices for absences. Glad you managed to attend the family weddings.0
