new nursery made me lose my grant...

i have changed nursery schools as the one local now takes children from the age of 3. i asked both nurseries if this was ok to move her but neither of them made me aware that if i moved her in the middle of a term i would my 12 hour weekly allowance which i am furious about as i woudl otherwise have moved her after xmas. can anyone give me any idea what i should do? can i go to the local authority and ask them? they were both under 2 different councils. thanks in advance.

  • It's clear in the T&Cs I have from my Local Authority that this is what happens. A nursery has no obligation to tell you. It's a parent's reponsibility and unfortunately in your situation that has meant a financial burden upon yourself. Sorry it's not what you want to hear. You could contact the Local Authority at the new nursery and see if they are willing to bend the rules a bit, but if your daughter was not present on the "head count" day, I doubt they will allow it.

I did this after Easter this year and moved midway through. I lost the funding for the new nursery for the half term but that is what happens. We got it again for this autumn term and will get it for the final term after January.

You must have signed for the funding and it is written there. It's only half a term, you'll get funding back in January.

sorry to resurrect this but just read something similar and I remembered this question, the guidance our local authority has is

What happens if I move my child to a different childcare setting?
If you find yourself needing to move your child from one childcare setting to another, you must make sure that you give the original setting the required notice, and that you inform the local authority immediately. Funding already paid to a childcare setting has to be re-claimed by the local authority before it can be re-allocated. This will not automatically be transferred from one childcare setting to another. Every effort will be made to ensure that your child obtains their full entitlement.

so they make no mention that you would lose the remainder of any term when you move. Maybe it's up to the LA to decide which method of charging/refunding they use
