Net curtains to hang from wires, not a pole

Hello good people, I'm looking to get net curtains to go on wires that are underneath the actual curtains/curtain pole.  I've already got the white curtain wires screwed in to the wooden window frames.

But looking at the website, all the net curtains are shown on poles without curtains, not on wires underneath curtains.  For example:

So, am I looking at the right thing?  What kind of net curtains do I need to go on wires?

Thanks!

Mine are slot top.  Doesn't matter if you put a pole or wire through.

  • Ah, okay, thanks!

  • Also, does anyone know if you run net curtains to the bottom of the window-sill, or to the floor?

Either, depends on the look you want.
Consider how wide your window sill is; if you want them to reach the floor you'll need to position them on the ceiling if there is any width to the sill. Also if you have a radiator below the window, you won't want to block the heat by putting nets in front of it.

  • Thanks for your reply.   I hadn't considered the window-sill!   The net curtains I'm looking at are lead-weighted, and will be hanging from wires on the wooden sash windows.  So it sounds like they should hang to just above the window-sill, otherwise if they go over it then the net curtain will be jutting out as it cascades down the window.

If they have weights you will find the wires sag a bit in the middle which is why the thin poles are better. They just clip onto a small straight hook, easy DIY job and you can use the same holes as the round hooks you use for the wires.
  • Ah, that's interesting, thanks for the information!       One of the windows is a bay that's 270cm across, but there must be flexible rods available.

I don't think so. Nets go to the window sill for another reason too. You need to get behind them to open the windows when we get some lovely weather, and a British fly screen :)
If you need to adjust them for height you can run tacking threads along the top of the slot top to shorten them slightly or even loop the slot over and tack with some cotton.
I've used the wires to get behind curtain tracks where the the amount of space is small.
I've used rods because the curtains hang just that little bit better but you need a decent gap between the curtain rail and the window frame.
The latest I have is tension rods which you adjust to fit from wall to wall which works well with double glazing so you don't have to intrude on the plastic frames but they do take up more space still.
With wires you can get small hooks to support them in the middle if they are a bit long and inclined to sag. A curtain/sewing shop can advise and show you.
If you want to do a bit of experimenting pick up some nets from a charity shop to play with then you'll have a better idea when you buy your smart new ones.

  • Thanks, twopenny, that's very good advice!

One final question if I may - with a big Victorian bay window, then, would I get three different net curtains, one for each direction the window faces?   Or would I get one that goes all the way across.... Or two, like I have with the main curtains?
