Can't play DVD+R on PC - Logical Volume Identifier

Years ago I transferred old family movies from VHS onto DVD+R for my parents. I'd like to save them onto their pc and transfer them to the cloud for safe keeping but their new Lenovo windows 10 pc doesn't read/open them (they play fine on the DVD player).  The Lenovo uses PowerDVD14 but reading previous threads on MSE I've downloaded VLC, as advised.  The videos show as files of individual half hour films (.VOB format) but when I open them the screen is blank or they have a weird green and black striped picture that is static but the audio is playing.  If I click on 'next media in the play list' then the video plays fine with the audio.
Is this the best I can hope for or is there a better way for these to be saved where they will open and play straight away?  Can anyone advise?  Thanks

VLC will work, but instead of opening the individual VOBs, do this:

Load VLC. Media -> Open Disc... -> DVD at the top, and select the right drive letter in "Disc device". Then press Play.

Alternatively Media Player Classic Home Cinema can open DVDs.

Edit to add: If you're playing the videos from the VIDEO_TS folders copied from the DVDs, browse to that instead of a DVD drive in "Disc device". You can also just drop the folder right onto VLC's icon.

MakeMKV may be able to extract the video.

DVD+R is quite often a pain in the backside for compatibility, since it was technically different to DVD-R:
