Hi I am having problems with EDF and my final bill. We have lodged a complaint with EDF customers services and they have eventually looked into iour complaint and have now come back and said that our final bill was wrong and it is more due to the increase cost in electricity. We feel that our smart meter was wrong or tampered with when their agent came to read it and the meter jumped up . They are claiming that we have used in a 12 month period 3007 kw in a property which is empty with the electricity switched off. The following 11 months whist renovating the property we used 255kw !,
We can not get through to them the issue - where can I go from here? Any advise /help would be very much appreciated

What do your own readings for the last 12 months say ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Is the smart meter dumb? Are there any estimated readings?0

Why on earth would a meter reader risk his or her job to tamper with your meter? What is their financial reward for doing so?
i suspect it’s jumped due to the fact your previous bills have been estimated and once a correct reading has been taken you’ve got a catch up bill which has probably surprised you by the amount you’ve used.
complaining to edf about a catch up bill is relatively pointless, it’s so important to check each bill that comes in against the actual meter readings.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0 -
Post a copy of some of the bills please - blank out the personal info please - much as the 3007 kWh sounds high (perhaps a 100w bulb left on in the roof - that's nearly 900 kWh) the 255 kWh sounds low. Has the meter be read by yourselves during the last couple of years ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Unlikely that a 100W bulb would last 8760 hours. Most are rated at 1000 hours, long life only 2000 or 3000.0

I recently got a statement from my supplier showing that I owed £270. I have a SMETS2 meter. CS told me that the statement was based on a meter reading provided to them by a meter reader! Unless the meter reader climbed over a bolted gate, the meter that he read wasn’t mine. CS claimed that a reading provided by a meter reader had primacy over the 30 minute usage readings that they received from the DCC! Rather than waste time I suggested that they raise an immediate complaint followed by a deadlock letter and we could let the Energy Ombudsman decide whether the bill was valid. They backed down very quickly.
