Survey report - thoughts?

We've had our survey report back which had the below sentence.
"The survey was severely restricted by the presence of floor coverings, fittings and furnishings. Where a limited inspection was possible, we confirm that we found active beetle infestation, dry rot, or other significant timber defects, however there were areas of inaccessible timbers and therefore we cannot confirm categorically"

When I asked him to clarify he said
"I inspected within the cellar where accessible however, there was a large amount of stored belongings in place which significantly impeded access (see attached photos) and hence for this reason this was mentioned in the report"

I spoke to the surveyor immediately after he didn’t mention it and said it was a good purchase. We’ve got a specialist going to take a look so I’m trying not to worry too much until then but how would you read the surveyors comments?

Are you sure it says active and not inactive?

That doesn't really make sense - are you sure it isn't "we found no active"... If they had found anything they'd tell you more about it.

The vendor made life difficult. Don't blame the surveyor if issues subsequently come to light.

Thanks. That’s how my husband and solicitor understood it too. We’re getting it looked at anyways but I think I’ll also go back to the surveyor again.

My buyer's survey mentioned 'beetles' -  I knew none were live.  We had woodworm in the past and treated it fully.  The surveyor's comment was due to the evidence of past tunnelling on the floorboards.

Panic over. It was a typo as pointed out by Davidmcn.
Thanks for taking time to respond.

That's a very significant typo. Let's hope the surveyor took more care when doing the survey ;)
