Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Goodness. Both those sound miserable.
It's been raining here but not hard. Just slow and sodden.
Yes, I've got two knocked about mirrors. One campervan opening its door and another vehicle that couldn't get over. Hazzard of living in a tourist area.
Hopefully some flower pics this weekend. A witch hazel with no scent :/and all sorts of blooming stuff
They are still saying sunshine and showers but no sign of it yet. And very wet. So it's going to be mostly checking seeds, searching shops for seeds and such but 11c this morning so, given half a chance, I may do some early sowing of brassicas on the assumption that for the last 3yrs its suddenly turned into too hot and dry.
And you know what assuming does?I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I know what assuming does
The only things blooming in my garden are two yellow crocuses that are looking a bit battered (no jokes about Scotland battering everything, please, as far as I know it's just pizza and mars bars) The lovely garden proud neighbour only has snowdrops out at the moment so I don't feel too bad.
I haven't looked at any other boards yet, YBE. I've had periods of unemployment before and I know we could manage financially on just DH's wage. I have a plan forming though, so hopefully it wouldn't be a long term thing anyway.
The gritters were out last night and I was expecting another hard frost this morning, but nope, it's just a bit chilly and quite windy. At least it's dry, that's the main thing'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Wet again, supposed to be dry, grrr. Quite dull & dark as well, so not looking likely I'll be pottering today.twopenny said:Hopefully some flower pics this weekend.I was hoping to get clicking today, but I'd have to be Jacques Cousteau to go outside right now.Nice sepia winter pic as well BTWTa Ra, I have a daff opened
, hence my wanting to get the camera out. It's Tete a Tete in one of the front pots, and I wanted to grab pear blossom buds
Only other garden related, the 2024 T & M catalogue has arrived, not that I need anything but always worth a coveting glance

Maybe in an hour or two we'll have drained sufficiently. And hats off to 2p for the picture.
I wouldn't have moved from the car yesterday.
I went past the place where I saw the egrets earlier, and there was a lone one close to the road. However, as soon as I pulled up, it decided to leave, so I didn't even get the window down!
I said I'd dig out some of our 'original state' garden pictures for Arb, so here's one for starters, conveniently dated!Once we'd burned a lot of the weeds, this is the sort of thing we found:There were over 150 bottles in this stash, some of them had rotting voles and shrews inside. It was the smelliest trip I've ever done to the tip recycling centre!

This morning was only 12 degrees in my living room so popped the heat on up to 15. It started wet but has dried off , not sure if it’s supposed to be like this, or if it will stay. My friend mentioned picking me up if it was raining so will check that.
Yesterdays stormy start turned to heavy rain with chunks of snow drifting in it. With the strong winds returning last night, the bedroom was cold so I think it must of been an easterly battering the front of the house.
I loved the atmospheric picture of a winter walk.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5 -
Welp, I guess I can feel good that at least my garden isn't actually on fire
No snow here (sad emoji) and very cold but dry and a hint of blue in the clouds (the kind of colour that the stereotypical bloke would call white if asked in a paint shop and would be called something like "Celestial Cerulean Serenade")
Last 24 hours is showing as low of 2 high as 4, but the forecast is promising the dizzying heights of 5 later this afternoon!
Next week is the week I 'traditionally' turn my heating off (put the thermostat on frost protection until October)... and I probably will, but I'm not looking forward to it.pink_poppy said:...as far as I know it's just pizza and mars barsI'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.5 -
Lovely wintry pic 2p. I reckon a lot of the country looks like that atm, well it does round here at least. And overflowing onto the roads in some places too cos the place is just saturated. Tricky driving conditions for sure.
So did none of us get the promised "disruptive snow" then? Swines. At least Cissie will be happy she was right when I talk to her on Sunday night.
That's some difference in a garden eh Dusty. How long was it neglected for that it got into that state?!
Woohoo for the first daffs Farway, don't they make your heart smile
I had an exciting day yesterday. It was our turn to have an MS3 pole forced on us (it's been a big thing round here, they're an alternative to KCOM) but they way they've gone about it has really put peoples' backs up. We thought we were safe here cos we're on private + protected church land and we've been assured they couldn't install one in the roads round us, but early yesterday morning they planted one anyway. Despite my best efforts, and still in my jamas (it was early and no-one else was up) I failed and the pole is in. I parked my car over the spot they'd spray painted when I saw the first van arrive, but that wasn't wise cos when they had it towed it got dented and scraped, and it cost me a fortune to get it back. So on sunrise pics I'll have 2 damned ugly poles in there now. I am Not Happy. That's an understatement, people are pure raging round here. Someone have a pre-emptive collection for my bail money will ya
Anyway. Mild out there, 5' but really thick mist. I can't even see the bottom of my gardenIt's meant to clear up later but I reckon it'll take a while. I need to find a garage to sort out my jalopy. Grrr, seethe, clenched fists, scowl, mad.
As I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...4 -
I have no idea what MS3 or KCOM are (communication gizmos I'm guessing), but they don't sound good and certainly not fitting from your description of where you live
We have poles and things in places where it beggars belief - no idea how they got (or even if they needed) planning permission for them. So annoying about your car too.
We have a yellow warning for snow today, but it's not looking likely. It's more damp and drizzly out there...'A watched potato will never chit'...3 -
Wow! Good for you for making a stand
.
Whats a MS3 etc when they're at home?
We tried to stop them errecting massive great floodlights outside peoples houses, level with a couple of bedrooms would you believe just so a small number of people could play tennis at night and yes, the view of the hills you have to gaze a floods of huge light fittings first.
7c, wind and blue skies out there this morning but wet out front and dry out back so it's anybody's guess if there's gardening today.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Hecking cold this morning. Strangely it was apparently a high of 10 degrees last night, but 2 degrees at 7 this morning... I'm guessing there was a warm front from somewhere that passed through. It being cold did mean I woke up sandwiched between two cats - it was obviously too chilly for their usual early morning patrolling.
Still no flowers/signs of desirable plant activity, but the buddlia that was hacked down has started to show some leaf, so I may need to ask the builder to remove any shoots he sees when they're back next month.
Quick question... I have a few seed potatoes. When do I put them on the windowsill to start sprouting? Now or in a few weeks?I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.3
