Ah jeez ragwort? Really?
I only left it cos I thought it was Cloth of Gold like wot Farway used to mention. No sign of any wosname caterpillars so I guess I’ll pull it up will I? It’s the only one but I don’t want a load of them.
I like Mr McGregors garden Dusty, especially that string holder twirly yoke
No ‘kicking everything out’ sale in my wilkos, and no bulbs in £land either, but there’s limes in Aldi and Lidl if anyone is making curd…. Net of 6 for 59p. They were only wee like but they’re there. Is there anything you can about blight? Or at least anything to protect your healthy plants? Are the blighted ones ok to eat?OT wall to wall sunshine, naturally, given the forecast. Warm wind blowing more heat up but the humidity is dropping at least 🥵I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3 -

Warm wind blowing more heat up but the humidity is dropping at least 🥵I think ragwort is very marmite, and very much depends on where it is, I know Dusty & his hay, rural area etc needs to remove it in case cattle eat it, but where I have it, in the volunteer border, semi urban area, it is just another pretty wild flower that insects loveOnly you can decide, if butterflies love it and not likely to be eaten then I'd leave itMy Cloth of Gold BTW, still going but not flowering for this year, some I planted out died of heat and lack of water, so I've hung onto some to plant this autumn, probably be under six feet of snow nowBlight, nothing for the amateur these days, there was a magic systemic chemical, but that got banned, then we fell back to old-fashioned Bordeaux mixture, but that's banned now, copper I think. Only thing for us is undercover or try resistant strains and hopeWhat is needed is a barrier against fungal spores, some folklore on using milk or bicarb, but rain washes it off of course, that same rain brings down more spores from Heaven. Just can't winAny blighted fruit tastes "off" musty and not nice at allSun's just come out at lastMy figs were tasty, but not as nice as my other tree, not as sweet, like lots of things, bred for eyes not taste, yes, I'm looking at you yellow cherry plum tomatoes!Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens4 -
Ooooh Bluey, your Glads have made the front pageCome on Dusty, Taff, Poppy, Wort. Need to keep lovely photos going.Farway I said earlier (should anyone say my agedness is making me forget ;-) I had sucess with blight by cutting off all the leaves and really withered stems at the top etc and many trusses ripend. Didn't notice a particular change of flavour and it didn't recour the following year.Envy your figs still. I think I've got to have one so I can make the delicious Pan de HigoLimes noted. I once made lime marmalade......boy that had some zing! It needs diluting with another fruit but it beat coffee for a wake upSo only managed to mow the front lawn and pick some beans today, got a whole load of stuff down the tip.Still fighting the trades, 1 down 3 more to go.Hospital 60 mile round trip with park and ride tomorrow so fun is off the agenda. Hoping to get back to potter, water, prune etc.On a more uplifting side I've had some lovely Alpine Strawberries from the self seeded/dumped plant. And my sucess with reblooming Orchids is amazing. So they are currently working out at half price and the bargain £2.50 ones at £1.25 each. I've lost the photos so I'll get back to that.Got to say though having them in the living room to regenerate has made that room smell kinda weird.Weather forcast as predicted by the sites and random people is from sunshine to devasting high winds so ????

Ok I'll leave it then. I'm sans cattle, and the bugs and butterflies do love it so... I don't miind it myself, it smells a bit like dandelions sort of, and the colours go with the trough of marigolds it's laid down next to. Thanks Farway
So have you any edible tomatoes or are they all blighted? Would 2p's chopping system work?
Getting a good load of stuff tipped is very satisfying eh, so long as you don't replace tipped stuff with fresh stuff ha haa! I hope horsepiddle isn't for anything serious and it all runs on time, especially when there's gardening to be done. Lime marmalade - oh I love lime marmalade. Actually if you keep your eye out in Aldi they sometimes have Roses lemon/lemon+lime/lime marmalades in the big baskets down the middle no on the normal shelves. I gather them up by the armful. It's usually £1.99 each or 2 for £3. Just the very thing for a good sharp cheeseWith some nice fluffy bread, and an apple or a pear maybe. You know, for us commoners that haven't seen sight of a fig in years never mind having our own tree
I'm not given to pride but - yay! My glads on the front pageSo that's twice now, my thread a wee while ago and a pic. This might be the universe telling me to stop saying things on the big boy parts of the forum that go against the wiseheads. Ahem
This is the thing, I don't back down if I'm not wrong, but who decides what 'wrong' is?
OT Drunkards and sobers are sticking with their 'cloudy all day' falsehood forecast but ventusky says it'll brighten on and off with showers interspersed. Lovely breeze so I've all himself's work gear washed and out on the line. Time will tell eh.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
Went to Wilko on Wednesday and picked up a few packs of 70% off seeds, only realized when I got home she charged for the dearest pack for all the packs I bought! Still they were cheap teach me to check the receipt next time.weather was warm got the washing dry. Read a book later.
went for a walk Tuesday dressed for rain with boots and umbrella , of course it turned sunny, cue a stop at the pub and an impromptu tea.
Thursday was boiling, by the time I had done the cleaning I was way too hot ,so sat in the shade and read another book.
Today is overcast and breezy though doesn’t feel cold. Not sure which of the reprobates to believe , but think it is rain🌂 possible thunder storms.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
I would take them back wort. The receipt will have the date on it so it's not like you're trying to have them over with an old (pre-sale) receipt.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3

YBE I did consider taking back, tbh if it was a large amount I would but it’s not and would involve a trip there and back. The rain has just hit here , just as I was considering mowing the lawn. I noticed my rhododendron at the front has holes in the leaves, so just been googling that.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.4

Sunny start but wind is getting up, not seen a forecast, so it's all mystery todayYoungBlueEyes said:Ok I'll leave it then. I'm sans cattle, and the bugs and butterflies do love it so... , I think I got in there in time, and some plants are blight free at the moment but need constant checking. I'm following the chopping system, but with the few I binned the blight had already infected the stems
I have started smearing, saving seeds for next year as wellCongrats on front page fame, BTWAnother lime marmalade lover here, once upon a time Mamade sold tins of lime stuff that you could make into six jars of Lime Marmalade, no longer available unfortunately, but the orange tins are, which I sue at times. I suppose I could add some limes in the mix? I have added tinned grapefruit in which worked OKJobs for the day, feed & water front pots later, blight patrol PM, check the runners, do I have enough for a meal? The flowers have stopped on them now, I hope more arrive, or it has been a very short seasonToday's pic is not mine, copyright is The TimesNow if you want fame, here is my granddaughter, the horticultural & Chelsea one, return summer working at Exbury Gardens. What a fabulous photo!
Can you get a copy like you could in the old days? Of course I don't think it's legal to copy and print from the net and you wouldn't do that....... be lovely framed though.
Yes a wander round the garden shows bone dry soil, weeds, stuff maybe dying and some over growing.
Time to sit and read a book and think about it. Forecast says likely rain, one side of the sky blue the other dark grey, a strrong wind got up then stopped.
But a 60mile round trip on a Saturday in August school hols and no aircon in the car will probably finish me off.
Not even interested in the garden centre as it's too dry to plant stuff.

I don't normally see the front page, but it must be nice to be there.Congrats to Farway's daughter too, whose paniculatas make ours look silly!I did a coast walk yesterday and it went a bit wrong twice, but neither was entirely my fault and there was no barbed wire and bramble SAS assault-style stuff.
I'm recovering today and sorting out the photos on the other 'puter. There are a few wild flower photos.
Meanwhile, here's another Rosemoor combo we liked:Artemesia lactiflora (Mugwort) and Echinops ritro + a fritillary and numerous bees."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity8
