Interesting report, that. One wonders why Dr Yin, based in Sichuan, was studying Americans, but then studying things in China that interested Americans was all the rage a few years ago too. We'd better not go there!Anyway, I don't have a very sweet tooth; no sugar in my tea, no cakes no fizzy drinks.
I do like a bit of good marmalade and I'll eat chocolate, but that's about it.

Ooh I'm with you on good marmalade. And lime curd too
I didn't picture you having a sweet tooth. I actually picture you as that fellah on the Chase credit card advert that's sat in the pub with a pint of ale and pie and mash that says "how many millions"
OT sun's out! Washing's out! Gutter man assures me he's coming today, really and truly. I even made him say "cross your heart and hope to die" so that's bombproof that is.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
Sunny here as well, a bit cool at the moment but no doubt warming as sun gets goingGlad you're back to normal, Dusty, and I'm all for chocolate & marmalade, I'm still searching for the perfect one of each, but I'm not fussy and will eat any, just I have preferences, which seem are at the expensive end of price ranges, not tried lime curd, but I bet I'd like it.On my garden prowl yesterday, picking runners for dinner and snaffling yet another ripe Golden Sunrise tomato, I found BLIGHT!
One of the wayward plants smothered by nasturtiums and toppled over, wet & forlorn. So far seems the only victim, promptly binned it and everything now crossed
Plus loads of "mushrooms" have appeared in my grass, ooh so tempting, but I didn't get to this age by eating what I don't know. I had the same come up last year.
However, this time a quick consultation with DGD wot is horticultural student [the Chelsea show one] identified a possible and nasty pitfall, maybe it's Yellow Stainer, seems a common poisoner 'cos it looks so much like a field mushroomHowever, some people can eat them without harm, I'm not going to find out which side I of the harm divide I'm onTask for later today is cut one open and sniff, the YT vid says can even put in boiling water to check if turns yellow. I may even try thatSo folks, what do you think at first glance and if I'd not mentioned alternatives? Now I've mentioned it, if you look closely you can see potentially yellow partsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens5 -
I'd do the cutting/boiling water tests, Farway. Another clue might be nothing's had a go at them. I've had two field mushrooms so far this year, and there was slug damage on both.

Aww Farway noooooo! Not blight
Are the rest going to be ok? :fingerscrossed: When I was looking up my dodgy toms I’m sure I came across a website map jobber where you can report you’ve had/got it to let others know it’s in the area. Was it BlightSpy maybe?
And I’ll not guess on your mushrooms, I just don’t eat things I’ve found either. Probably missed loads of delish free food but *shrug*
As for lime curd, I’ve only seen it outside little auld ladies front doors but jeez my heart leaps when I see itI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -
Quick update, rechecked the toms, no more blight to report and the yellow cherry plum ones are ripening outside side all should be well because I can rush them indoors to ripen nowPotted up the small Brown turkey fig I bought the other day from MorriesThen, it was Name that Fungus time.Cut open as per YouTube, definitely a yellow foot and a sniff confirmed it, good ones are aniseed smell, bad ones are floor polish, this was nose wrinkle chemical pong, and it would be brave or foolish to continue to cook or eat it once the smell aroseExhibits A & BEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens5

Good job it wasn’t me sniffing it, I’d sooner eat floor polish than aniseed!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4

So another warm, sometimes sunny day with a stiff breeze. It was a bit muggy this morning but the evenings are definitely 'autumn' cool.My rose leaves on the two newish ones have gone yellow. I think it's stress and lack of fodder because it's still so dry so I'll feed and water them and see what happens. The tomatoes aren;t ripening in the shadier spot so I'm going to pop a commercial ripe one on the trusses. That's worked for me in the past. Something to do with the chemical they give off when ripening and I can't spare my few that are actually coming good.I may try and put back the shading I use for privacy between neighbours back if I have any more energy.I'd be quite happy to potter in the garden making it better but the devil on the other shoulder says I should clean the car or do some housework.I spotted this when I got out of the car to photograph thistles -Don't know what it is but I'se sure not going to try and eat it!I had some lovely foreign friends that used to go foraging and any time you dropped in would fry you some. They knew what they were doing it seems as I'm still here.Whoohoo I've made it to the front page!!Come on Bluey you've got to try harder
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Mushrooms are fascinating, but so easy to misidentify. A great book for anyone interested is 'Mushrooms and other fungi of Great Britain and Europe' by Roger Phillips.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mushrooms-Other-Britain-Europe-original/dp/0330264419
That helps you ID by location, various stages of development, stem and cap appearance/texture, and any other defining feature - but even then you can make mistakes. To quote someone's amazon review 'never much on a hunch'I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.5 -
Aww no, am I the slow ship?
I've nothing pretty or interesting going on out there... I'm waiting on all my snipped stuff to produce more. Roses, sweet peas. My glads are nearly all done. Actually there's a tall yellow weedy something that's growing by the bird feeder but I've had to carefully lay it down cos the young blackies were struggling to land with it in the way. I don't even know what it is, it just grew.
I can confidently announce, with absolute certainty, that there will be no rain now for days and weeks. The gutter man came yesterday evening! He was full of apologies, he reckoned he'd just forgotten to write it down in his job book. Grrrr. Anyway it was full of moss and crap because somehow there was a wee flat bit of concrete (?) that was almost plugging the downpipe. 2 minute job. Now I need to get the wall cleaned and dry cos it's got a definite green hue to it
OT More of the same really - the sun came up, but didn't put any effort into it. My washer's on cos the humid is dropping already, there's no real breeze though. I waiting on the heat coming again cos my toms aren't looking very happy. Oh and I'm giving up growing lettuce (after this round) for they don't look anything like the label
Edit - your toms 2p, would putting a ripe banana with them work? Rather than buying more toms? I'm guessing that's the same gives-off-a-gas process...?I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.2
