Thanks for ventusky link and rose advice Farway
Good luck with your Oliver Twist salad!
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3 -
Haha, I'm definitely not a mad-axe-murderer, I was just at work
Twopenny, let me know if you want some of the aquilegia seeds - I'm sure there's enough.
Absolutely stunning photos on here - wow to all of them!!
Another one who has scoffed a home grown tomato today - had it sliced in a buttered roll - yum. I have one more just about ready (I'll be eating that tomorrow) and the rest (I counted 14) are all green, but have that mottled look about them as if they're thinking about starting to change colour.
The weather is cloudy and breezy with a bit of sun thrown in for good measure'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
YoungBlueEyes said:Dusty what was the name of the weather thing you use? Vartabilly or summat? Is it more accurate/less inaccurate than the others...?Hmm....sounds like a rival to the Duracell Bunny, but no, wasn't me. I see Farway knows. Following his link, the website certainly looks promising, but my mouse is somewhat hit and miss on it. More cheese, Gromit.Seeing what was to come, I began early and go most of the grass cut before things became impossibly wet. Admittedly, much was with the non-mulching ride-on, but the two tidier 'lawns' were bagged, so we're semi respectable.
Mrs Dusty claimed to be off to see the physio, and hasn't returned, so methinks she's abandoned the car at the health centre and gone to view sheep!

So the Met were right again but so were the BBC!It did rain before I could get home to mow the lawn......granted I went to the next village for eggs, bought some delicious cheese for a small mortgage, had a long chat in an art shop and then a treat lunch at home. But it's nothing but spotting, less than drizzle so too wet to mow or tie up the tops of shrubs but not enough to water the garden. I did water more pots first thing. While getting the eggs there were big bags of chicken manure at the gate. I tried to lift one but couldn't, I then stank to high heaven of chicken poop so it's going to have to be sheets over the car boot, some way of lifting it into the boot.Would be great on the compost heap. Or I could try drying it out on a sheet in the back garden. The neighbours would love that!Last week of Greencombe. I may pop over for a relaxing walk and look at their hydrangas as dealing with EDF and the AA I feel in need of empty green spaces with long views of the sea.As we're talking insects I found this on my seteeIt's actually tinyThink it's a ladybird larvae unless anyone knows different?

A Harlequin by the look of it
IIRC, they can eat upwards of 50 aphids a day, so always nice to see.
Started out glorious and warm here today, but started tipping it down by 1pm, so I'm quite glad I wasn't tempted to put any more wash on.
Happy day though - it's the first day in a week I've not woken up coughing. And I think the mix of sun and rain has finally prompted my squash seed to start thinking about flowering... still maybe too late for fruit (might depend on how late summer goes) but progress none the least!I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.5 -
Well there’s another blast of heat coming Arb, according to himself’s BiL (farmer) so you may get squash yet.I only popped on to say I got the ventusky app and it’s great fun. All the stuff I didn’t know I needed to know - likelihood of seeing aurora for example, can recommend. The drunkards, sobers and ventusky are all right so far. Started glorious and slowly clouded over, rain about bedtime ish.Are they very special sheep Dusty?
Another good day there 2p and I’m with you on cheese prices. Christ they can charge eh! Good stuff is worth it though 😊
And yes I’ve heard from pp so I take back my mad-axe-murderer comment 😆 Looking forward to getting seeds now 👏🏻I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3 -
Raining good 'n proper (again!) in Gorsebush Folly. Late putting my summer bedding out today (laundry not plants) because my machine was stuck on wash mode for 2 hrs until I moved it forwards, so I missed most of the dryer morning. Hoping against hope this isn't the end of my 13 year old washer ☹️
There's a rip-roaring discussion/argument raging on the local Nextdoor website. We have a local climate change evangelist who posts scare stories and reams of "evidence" now and then, and another fellow who calls people like me "deniers" and says "these views will not be tolerated" etc. I sincerely believe that these two chaps are setting themselves up to be the local authorities on the subject, and preparing to step-up when society collapses 😏 or something. One certainly has the connections to ensure he's first pick. You can imagine the outrage these men cause!
Taff, my garden's not big, possibly a third of an acre, but by modern standards it's HUGE. Ex council house, so you get the gist. The new estate up the road being built 🙄 well, you should see those big detached Lego boxes. Could hardly squeeze a cigarette paper between them. What's the point? I ask myself.
Snapped the chaps in the fish pond at 2am. They come and go, spend some time with the fish then the next night they'll be in the tiny wildlife pond down the end of the garden. I go out with the dogs every night, them to pee and me to keep an eye on the frogs.

Ah must ask too.......it's going to cost her so she might regret thisThough others have offered the same so we may have a swap system here.Went to Greencombe and it started raining proper. Didn't mind, it was still lovely and tranquil and I had the garden all to myself.I'd already got ideas about making my slope divided like I did with a bit when I first started. Now I've seen their pockets of planting on a hillside it's given me more ideas! But this is one I noticed last year and promptly forgot. I'm going to have to get more organised. The way they grow their runner beans. Genius. Looks good and works better than the teepee or run. It's egg-timer shaped. The wall ast the side had strawberries growing over - and a row of margoriam and origanoEven Farways nasturtiums in one cornerDon't know how I'm going to do it and it won't look like this that's taken years to create but it would make a great project to try.

Lovely photos 2P. I really like their pathways. Just had a look at their website, what a fantastic place. Is it private or NT or other? I guess with those canes crossed lower down than a regular wigwam, the access to the higher beans is easier?3
-
Ooh I like the paths too, wonder if I can convince himself we need paths like that here? It's alright thinking of all the things you'd like but finding good old bricks would be a beggar. Already tentatively looked cos I'd like a wall where the patio meets the (slightly lower) garden. The price of them! We'd have to give up cheese to afford enough of them
Love your pond Gorse, I'd be happy if I can replicate that. Have you many fishes? What do dogs think of the frogs...? Lovely neighbour has a couple of frogs and Handsome is content to slowly trail round the garden after them. His Holeyness couldn't actually care less.
I like the idea of doing swopsies, I'm not sure what I could contribute but I'm sure I've something. Sweetpeas.. toms (!)... lupins have gone over now so I need to get their pods snipped off. Same as the not-called-cystitis bushes, they're all pods now.
OT everyone was right yesterday right up til the point they were all wrong. Rain coming across about 10pm ish they all said. Well it was drizzling about 7, rain about 7.30, then bucketing down by 9. Good job I got my gutter-drip-catching waterbutt moved over and put my blue bin in it's place cos they're both full! Musta been some prolonged rain to fill them like. It's the tiniest finest wee drizzle here now but it'll dry up to a mild nothingy day. The humidity's in the 90's, there's not a breath out there. Can't wait for that to lift so I can open my windows!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3
