Was out for an afternoon walk in a different area today as the river was taken over by rowers and assorted officials and spotted this very handsome iris.
The colour of the petals against the gravel, concrete and stone simply stopped me in my tracks."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

twopenny said:So to put the other side of the coin my next is tidying up the badger run. There are roses and Goosberries under there. Honestly I did have it neat and tidy 5 weeks ago.I've been wondering for ages what your badger run looks like. For those who don't know, badgers are creatures of habit and respond badly if anyone blocks their normal routes, to the extent of destroying fences if necessary. I once re-routed some badgers, but it took a lot of concrete! We were supposed to collect some more fertile eggs yesterday afternoon, but we were both struck down by lunchtime with a bug like mild flu. We don't think it's Covid because all our interactions with others have been individual since last Sunday, when we waved goodbye to our DD and her children, the younger of whom was unwell. I suppose 5 days incubation is about right.....Anyway, it's light duties today, as I still seem to be running a temperature. I wanted to get the squashes in, but pushing barrows of muck doesn't appeal somehow!6

Nice batch of photos as usual. I now must get out & take some in the morning's sunshine, plus sniff the pyracantha to check, from memory it was a cat like odour and certainly not honeyPink P, I never net my red currants either but find enough to sprinkle on the morning porridge, if I wanted a pie or jam though I'd never get one after the birds have been but my currants are not occupying space i could use for much else so I let them beDave, hope the bug goes, does sound like something the DD children left youMy Shirley toms are getting into their stride now, at long last plus there are flower clusters appearing, I have hopes for a crop after all. Job for later is tie the plants to the canes before they get too tallAnd, Ta Ra, drum roll, my clematis has flowered, but I'm sure it was white last year? Now it's dark purple, maybe I've finally gone mad? Looking good though & time for a photoIt's all starting to look productive at lastPS, fig update, I've posted a new thread about my fig cuttings to keep it in one place fro searches, with picsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens4

Shame about the fly trap, DD265.
Goldfinches, lovely iris. We’ve got lilac ones out at the moment.
Sorry to hear you and your DW are not well, Dave, hopefully not the dreaded lurgy. It sounds more likely to be a bug caught from one of your grandchildren, they do love to share things 🙄
Farway, I had to laugh at your clematis, maybe there’s a white one lurking somewhere. Off to have a look at your fig pics now...'A watched potato will never chit'...4 -
Dave, just briefly, the current symptoms of the virus are - fever, sore throat, headache, runny nose and cough.
Take care. Maybe get a test.
The new set of symptoms haven't been published in the media or nhs site. This is from the covid tracker app. So much like a cold people are going out and socialising with it.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I've never had the smell from that plant - perhaps it varies with variety. Elder if you collect the flowers the cream ones are revolting where the white ones are delightful. You need to take care before making your cordial/wineFabulous shot Farway.Discussing bathroom with friends husband and playing tennis today so no gardening other than watering the plants. Very hot, dry as a bone and likely to loose plants that have been moved or newly planted with me still 'creating'.Sheesh you can't win. A month of rain and things rotting followed by a month of hot sunshine. But that's gardening for you.

This is from the covid tracker app. So much like a cold people are going out and socialising with it.Thanks for your concern 2p, but this only gave me the raised temperature and headache. Having slept for England, I don't feel too bad and symptoms have largely gone already. I just feel less than enthusiastic about manual activity! I've no plan to socialise for 5 days now, which is the time I leave between when we have visitors from urban parts and socialising, so I won't be at the old folks drop-in cafe this week! The little grandchild who was ill whilst here last week is still snotty and coughing, but very cheerful and eating like a horse, so I guess all is well.

You don't have to get them all Dave. I'm thinking with the number of visitors that are coughing and sneezing and my activities starting again of getting some Lateral Flow Tests in. My neighbour did that when he was unwell but I feel a bit wimpish about the swabbing. Had enough of half choking on stuff at the dentist this month.Got the hose ready to start watering again tomorrow. Temperatures set high and dry for the forseeable future. All the birds using the bird bath at the mo. I think I'm going to have to find something bigger temporarily.

2p I'm not sure what dodgy lateral flow tests do to assist the situation where an unemployed or retired person like me feels under the weather. The government famously said in its applied psychology campaign, "Act as if you've got it," so if I follow that logic and avoid meeting people indoors for 5 days after feeling completely well, it'll be fine.I'm much better today, but it's forecast to be a hot one, so after a quick damp down in the polytunnel I'll probably stay indoors until 6pm.....but I'll be bored!
