Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Hi 2p, views from home much better thanks. My DD is visiting and helping me reassemble my wooden mini green house. But dreary but dry. I've ambled up my drive with 2 crutches and that's far enough for me. 1 more week then I'll transplant seedlings into pots and try to find places inside to grow them on. Too early for unheated green house. Have enjoyed watching my 2 blue tit nest boxes and had gold finches for the first time this year:) how are you getting on?

Well who said no gardening today 😄
I've got me an extending trowel, already got a thin grabber and my light folding chair so I reckon I can put plants in and weed from sitting 🙂
Oh and there was one dwarf Golden Delicious tree left in the shop and it has leaves which is more than my £5 Tesco's one that is still a living stick after 2yrs! I'll start it in a pot like I did the cherry that was successful. Not another pot!!! And I'm going to put in a request for the black cherry they had.... always a chance but might get it. Heaven knows where that would go 😲
Middle wife, that sounds ambitious for the first week? Ah re reading that's going to be the second week! I've been and got baggy trousers, top with pockets and a mop. Moved furniture. Just need to make a plinth so I can get into bed correctly. Checked I have the platform in the garage (I save wood) other bits to collect Monday.
Yes I've over done it but needs must. 😊 I've got the sofa where I can see woods, the bird table and a chair in the enclosed porch so I can see people 😄
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

That sounds like a plan, 2p. No, I'm only 4 days post op ( had it Tuesday) and aching now so probably overdone it ( not for the first time!) pots mean no digging and easy weeding/harvesting. One more round of physio then I'm hitting the sack :)

Definitely weather today.
Moved the sofa for a view of the hills and this is what I've got 😐
Thick mist/fog and no wind to blow it away. Feels darn cold though it's 10c.
The nearest I'll get to plants is the heather honey for breakfast!

2p said: Dusty sciatica is the worst I think. Do you swim? I found doing the crawl without kicking legs worked for me when I ruptured a disc.
I'm sure there are worse things.😱 At least I'm having some relief. Swimming? No, not for years…pool's 13 miles. 😕
I didn't do too badly yesterday. Going carefully, the tree trunk was chopped into sensible-sized bits and barrowed to my chopping-up place. A few other little jobs completed my morning. Then, after lunch, the phone rang to say the ride-on was serviced and ready to collect, so I did. Unfortunately, it was bouncing along on that which set the sciatica off again, and I only drove it for 5 minutes back to base. ☹️
I didn't speak about yesterday's weather because it was a 'wait & see,' misty start. It didn't improve, though the stillness was welcome. Today, it's mistier, like your scene, 2p. At least you have a very floriferous garden in view. 😇 The drunks are calling this 'fog,' and they say it'll be with us until tomorrow morning. A smattering of rain overnight too. Oh well, I'm not mowing for a while!
Delving into the archives for photo inspiration, I found this from some years ago, and almost on this date. It's the view behind a Lidl store. I won't say where, because we should have been shopping locally at the time! 🤣

Morning all, on International Women's day :)
Your garden looks lovely and full and happy 2p, and the mistiness gives it a calmness. Lovely 😊 You're right - a lot of my gardening is in my head cos I never seem to get it all done even though I've thought of doing it for long enough and sometimes I even think I remember doing it. I've mentally planted and sorted my sweetpeas a few times, but the wee empty yogurt pots are still sat there looking at me 🙄 Dwarf Golden Delicious sounds a good addition, even if it does mean another pot… Did you get all your furniture how you want it?
I love how you've taken the sunset pic Dusty, it's almost like it's something rare and special, and you're spying on it. Your Lidl river is deffo front page material, that's another one I'd have as a screensaver or summat. Have you lots of trees still to take down?
I'm not trying the quote thing again, but you asked about my IOW tom seeds Farway. They're smears from fresh toms. We were in a f+v shop and the woman was putting out more toms and they smelled fab so we bought a few of each as a taster. Well they were delish so we went back for a bag full (intending to keep some for seeds) but ate the lot. She did think we were funny when we went back in again… I just hope they taste similar to the ones we ate 🤞
OT murky and dreich and cool out there, even if it says it's 9'c. Feels more like 3 to me. I didn't get the grass cut yesterday but I doubt I'll do it today either cos it's rained overnight. More weeding - I gave my roses a haircut yesterday and more weeds revealed themselves - and I will absolutely plant my sweetpeas. And some lobelia and cosmos maybe for I do like them ☺️

Blue said : I can contribute to the
snowyfrosty flower theme. It was still happily flowering even though it was v late when the cold came and took it ☹️ It was on 21st Nov last year -Only just spotted this. It's a Geum in a pot, and geums in pots don't usually die of cold, so often as being eaten by vine weevil grubs. 😟 If you still have the compost in there, check it out! 😉
I love your poetic way of looking at things too. 😇 The hedge photo was a frantic attempt to get the shot I saw from the bottom of the garden, but by the time I'd got the camera it was too late. 😕
Your IOW seeds are worth a punt, whatever they were. Did they say 'Local?'
We don't have to take down any more trees at this point, but our difficulties with over-large trees that ought to have been removed by now, result from wimping-out in the past! 🤒 There are now 3 big trees beyond our capabilities to fell safely. We'll have to pay someone, or just ignore them and hope the more desirable trees can cope with the competition. 😞

YBE's " murky and dreich and cool out there" sums it up nicely. Supposed to brighten p later, I'm in the bottom bit that gets a sunny break later, maybe.

Don't want to rain on you, but I had a dwarf GD in a pot, and gave it to DD last year so she could plant it in the ground. I found it grew but being on dwarf roots, and in a pot, I never could give it enough water or food, then it tilted over, 'cos "know all" here failed to stake it despite all advice saying dwarf trees must be staked 🙄. All in I only had a few decent apples off it, most were small & wizened, my fault, with real TLC it could've done well
FWIW, if you can possibly find a wee space in your garden I'd bung it in the ground, and stake it. Next time I'm round DD I'll get pic of GD. Hope the cherry comes along, I'm on lookout for one, I do have one in ground but birds are a problem
I keep seeing Seed Snails on YT, anyone tried or is it just click bait fad?
Refreshed, and Dusty said to 2P Your IOW seeds are worth a punt, whatever they were. Did they say 'Local?' Answering for her, the IOW seeds, at a guess are from the IOW Tomato farm toms. I did recommend they try the toms last year when they were off to IOW for a holiday. I get them here from local G grocer in season, and they re superb and different varieties.
Mine failed to come true from seed, so fingers crossed for 2P
No sign yet of the Castor Oil seeds sprouting, but the toms are now out & on the window sill, annoyingly I keep getting "Ole Man River" in my head whenever I see them, it's that darn Paul Robeson variety triggering it 😂
The Mangy Toot are doing well after five days, If the sun does get here I may pot them on into compost this afternoon

Farway the seed snails are on insta, a couple of gardening ones I watch. One puts the seed in the snail, the other waits till they have leaves then “pots on” into snail. Saves lots of space using snail versus seed trays. You get nice long roots too. I’ve seen old compost bags cut into strips and used or that packing stuff, a layer of soil then the baby plants, rolled and tied with string.
The mangy touts are doing well.
Dusty interesting about the geum, I don’t have much luck and mine has disappeared, but other plants in pot ok🤔
Dull yesterday no gardening only on the tablet watching what others are doing. I now have another list of plants I want 🫣today it’s the dreaded work, hope you are all well.

A quick one today. We have GC here to try out his new pushchair, and I have Hornbeam arriving to plant as a hedge to eventually blot out Mr C's unsightly privacy fence and caravan. 😛
Yesterday, the sciatica allowed me to dig half a trench for the hornbeams in the filthy mist which is still here this morning. 😕 We'll see what today brings.Forecast is for sunshine and showers. Meanwhile, still dark and foggy, with zombie sheep on the prowl! 😱
