Don't be envious of the size of my garden Taff. It's a lot of work. I'm just glad it's not as big as Dusty's!6

Wind finally dropped enough and having, more-or-less, got on top of other jobs urgently needing doing in dry/sun, had final assault on greenhouse damaged by Storm Darragh (or whichever storm it was...)Have been toying with the idea of having to invest in a replacement, but, with the aid of some new G clips (not come across these before - but hoping they will do a bit better on the polycarb sheets), plus some oversized (not intentional - failed to read online description correctly) W clips managed, with a combination of shifting a couple of intact panes to the roof, and cobbling together three broken panes to replace one missing bottom-half-of-wall pane, to end up with an intact greenhouse at minimal cost...Well, almost - managed to crack one pristine roof pane from top to bottom
- but had just enough freezer tape left to stick on both sides (I've previously had a successfully trial run of this on a small piece of glass broken from one corner of a roof pane...) Does freezer tape even exist anymore? This was a (small) roll purchased by my parents when they first got a freezer in the late 1970s, so extra money-saving... not sure what it was used for!
Added one or two of the remaining W clips to each of the roof panes as well, so hoping it will at least last out the season...Will try to post more pics of my primroses, before they become last season's thing...7 -
Jeez that was a big catch-up, which I've forgotten the majority of, naturally.
Congrats on the new Dustette Dusty! Don't forget to teach they all the important things in life. To add to the electrocutions etc above - if you take a swig of Gee's Linctus cough medicine and realise but didn't shake the bottle first you have to go outside and do 10 handstands in a row, because that's the same thing.
Brilliant photos, especially the auroraI love your arty gorsey sunset pp, and ducks in a row <snigger> Your old garden deffo has a lovely cool calm feel to it 2p, I like that a lot. Hurray for the non-drunk sack truck Farway, and your measuring stick made me smile Dusty (good colour too)
Speaking of birds of prey, it was on our local news the other night that my old town has had enough of the bladdy pigeons and has fetched in a fellah with a hawk. Handsome beast it was too, called Zulu. Apparently pigeons just want an easy life so on sight of the hawk (...hen harrier..?) they'll pack up and leave. Cue camera shots of Zulu flying up onto the roof and pigeon doing side-eye whilst clearly thinking 'gerroff moy laaahnd'! You'd think it'd be on the local paper's website but it isn't
Anyway. Which one of us is the bright person who's doing translations? When you've cracked 'free-draining moist soil' nonsense can you do my one next please? My wafty hanky rhododendron has to be planted 'in bright indirect sunlight'. What does that even mean?! *sigh*
OT cold out there but the sun's out. Been like this all week really, nice enough to look out at but you still need a coat on for that wind would cut right through ya :brrr:
Oh and himself's gone all stoddy. I picked my car up last night and he's just realised it's newer than hisOnly by 6 months but you wanna see the way he's carrying on. For anybody else finds themself in this situation - incredulous laughter and dismissive sarcasm is not the answer. Evidently.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -

I'm just glad it's not as big as Dusty's!I've measured our garden area, and it's about an acre....but there are also the fields, their hedges, the orchards, the two small wildlife woods, the willow copse and the stream-side. I've done nothing in the fields, but everywhere else has had some input since last summer. And there's the polytunnel, where I'm still digging out a new deep bed for toms etc. It's lots of work, and I enjoy it, but I'm not able to put in so many hours, now I'm well past my “three score years and ten.”pink_poppy said:Exercising your dibberI know, a bit 'posh,' but mine has survived, totally unmarked, after being buried in a compost heap for a year. Also, even the best tattie-peelers go blunt eventually, so rather than throw it away.....LessImpecunious said:Does freezer tape even exist anymore? https://www.premierpolytunnels.co.uk/shop/accessories/adhesive-tapes/repair-tape/repair-tape-50mm/?gQT=1The primroses are still going great guns here. As 2p said, the weather in the autumn & winter must've suited them. However, I'll post something a bit different this morning. It's another early bloomer, often, overlooked, so we don't spread it around as much as it deserves.I'll maybe try for a better photo.I'd to lay on the ground to get this one, and the wind was blowing hard.
The wind is still with us this morning, but it's another sunny, 18c day, supposedly. It looks similar in London, where a family member is running the half-marathon. The two young folk here are going up there to give support. I imagine many will be travelling in the opposite direction on the M4/M5, hoping to make the best of the fine weekend.Hmmm..the sunshine continues into next week, but maybe Jack Frost hasn't quite done with us yet!

It's been a week of sunshine and v.chilly winds. No rain though.
Thursday I had a walk 5 miles around and it was warm enough to take off my coat ! Then we had a late lunch.
Friday I nipped in Asda to look at the 3 for £5 plants , I wanted aubretia that I had spotted the other day,but none left so I got a clematis, a geum, and arabis.
PP so lucky to veiw the aurora so much, people pay a lot to go to see it and often don't manage it.
I've caught up but can't remember what/ who, so hope you are all enjoying the sun.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
