pink_poppy said:Did anyone see the partial eclipse then?? No chance here - it's been raining non-stop and we've got 40+mph winds forecast for this afternoon. It's a day for staying in, putting the fire on and reading a book.Yes, and I took photos, but there's nothing recognisable shown in them.
You suggested a 'pinhole camera setting, so that's what I used, along with shooting through the conservatory roof, which has a sun filter. I could see the eclipse best through thin cloud, but it was too bright for the camera, even with the shutter setting 2 stops down.
Looking this up, it seems I should have used a much darker filter than the conservatory roof!Never mind, here's a cat instead. Not quite up there with your picotee amaryllis, but it's all I have just now.
She didn't even look!

I can just imagine you strutting around with it like my DH was when he got his very first wheelbarrowNot used in anger, wheels on, all greased, sliding parts silicone sprayed & ready to go, the handle is collapsible, with a satisfying Thunk when it slots into place and front foot folds up, very compactLovely amaryllis PPBack allowed me out to play in the garden sunshine for a bit, and got the Snake Heads + some spare celandineNo Eclipse, but did spot this chappie

What a lovely time you're all havingBeen doing household stuff all day before an early start for a quiz so need to zip off and make myself tidy now.No eclipse. It's been cloud all day.But imo you've seen one you've seen them all.Still haven't watered/fed the front pots. Maybe tomorrow.Farway what's the difference between Silicone, WD40, oil and greace?Once upon a time there were 2 choices!Lovely puss cat Dusty. I bet he/she/it is lovely and warm and cuddly on a cold night. And its been chilly today. Don't know where this '20c' has gone. It's supposed to be with Farway.

Haha, I didn’t suggest a pinhole CAMERA setting, I didn’t even know there was such a thing - it was the much less technical ‘poke a hole in a bit of card’… 😂

I like the colander idea - I’ll maybe try that next year when the next solar eclipse is due.
Gorgeous pussycat ❤️ who has the job of brushing her?? We clipped our pussycat’s claws yesterday - I wrangled him with a blanket while DH did the deed - what a carry-on 😳
Your snakes heads are looking good, Farway. And well done on your sack truck prepping.
I used to see microlights going over quite often in our last house - how lucky for you to see one today.
I’m really pleased that I’ve managed to get the previous year’s (or before) Amaryllis to flower - I’ve never done that before 😃 I certainly didn’t expect to get flowers when we’re almost into April. The red ones are over now and the plant will be heading for the garage at some point ready for next year.
Who said put the fire on this afternoon?? I nodded off in front of it and have just woken up an hour later 😂

That made me laugh pp
Himself gets bitten rotten but they leave me alone thank god. No eclipses or auroras or nuffin on this side
Was it you Dusty that asked a few pages back if anyone had had any of the desperate cold they'd predicted? Nothing here but on my way home from work a couple of weeks ago I noticed that Tall Tree had put it's Big Pants on to protect against collapsing polar vortices bears. Successful they were too cos the tree's still there
Ooh I love the sound of a micro light Farway. Mum used to call them paper planes and we'd spend hours gazing up at them. Good job I can't afford one or I'd never be on the ground again ha haa! I checked my figlets (?) earlier and I still have 4. Shouldn't be surprising because it's in the conservatory. I know the label says it's an outdoor plant but I daren't risk losing them to the soddin squirrels/birds/slugs so it may stay in there all summer. Or it's whole life maybe. They've enough of a buffet outside, I'm not giving them my fig tree on top of it.
Dusty your cat looks literally looks like the cat that got the cream with those facial markingsDoesn't look at all like the ones that you just know are quietly working out the best way to rip your face off. Your one looks contented
How did you do in the quiz 2p? Have you a good quiz name...?
OT not warm at all out there actually. Wind has a bite to it but the sun's out so it'll do. Ought to do some gardening today really, I need to at least cut the grass. I may go over it a few times (on a high setting) to hopefully upset the ants that are still in residence
Oh and I'm sans carHimself's boss came round yesterday and took it for his daughter. "£200 and no backsies!" He seemed happy enough and she'll only crash it the first time she's out in it he said
Dave still has my car - he's found a bit of rust on the bonnet so he's got that do but he says the rest of it's in good shape :clapping: I can't tell you how queer it is looking outside and seeing no car
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -
Another bright blue sky & sun morning. A bit of a struggle getting up, with clock times, but here I am.Been busy gardening already, put more peas [for shoots] on to soak in water for a while. Drained off yesterdays Kelvedon Wonders and now in damp tissue to sprout. This lot should romp away, fresh seeds & warmer ambient temperature as well.twopenny said:Farway what's the difference between Silicone, WD40, oil and greace?Once upon a time there were 2 choices!Functionally not a lot, practically quite a bit.Grease sticks like hrrrmph to a blanket, so should not wash away or vanish over timeWD has silicone in it, but will also disperse water, it's main function. It will dry out & loose oomph over time.Silicone comes as spray, gives a smooth running surface, try some on curtain tracks. There's also graphite sprays, ideal for lock, and bike chain, lubrication cos doesn't attract dirt / dustYoungBlueEyes said:That made me laugh pp

Micro lights, we get some, but also Chinooks & various helicopters. The M'Light buzzing I thought was a helicopter, so had trouble locating it, I was looking for a helicopter.Good move on the fig inside, I have one inside for that very reason, but it's never figged ! Which is daft 'cos they do outside. And well done on car sale, £200 for a first car, modern equivalent of the ten pound banger? There's a lot to be said for older cars as first car, easy & not a bank buster if it gets written off, or tears when a bit gets bent in a car park.Mooching round the patch yesterday it struck me just how much promise there is with my fruit trees, loads of buds, all ready to pop if the sun keeps goingMy Boysenberry, I sorted it yesterday, a tip had rooted [yay] all by itself, so I've left the rooted bit in where it went, and cut it off from the main plantTied the main plant in & up into sun, it was along the ground. After a few days, I'll check & get a photo. Also potted on what I think is a loganberry, label is AWOLHere are some of my fig pimples, loads this year and my hopes are high

Just quick cause the back has gone now.Sunny, had a lovely part of day kneeling, clearing, weeding, pruning the border and cleaning out the pond.Fountain has worked all winter but not today, not when cleaned, no idea. I hope it's not only usable for a year.Plum has some blossom - but all on the two new branches on my neighbours side
I have about 3 blossoms my side!
Starting from scratch the garden is now at the stage of pruning and shaping and boy is there a lot of that. Thanks Farway. I have a glass porch with a sliding door that's another Heath Robinson affair but there's no replacement door and the runners are gummed up with grit, leaves and dirt and sometimes won't run.I've been using WD40 but can only squirt so far. I thought I may try Silicone as I bought a whole spray only to use a tiny bit.Your fig plants are selling at £99 in the garden centre...................Yes Bluey, we won the quizI seem to have become the star! As long as it's not sport. Never been so sought after. Always been told I can't do stuff.Name - Old Boots from walking group and because our team was divided into 2 teams. Usual name is the Old Bats. Succinct and appropriate, unlike our old name, the non-existent 'Moist, but Well Drained.'It's been bright, breezy and busy weekend here, with no gardening.Details Monday or Tuesday...
