Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Thanks for the information twopenny and Farway
I hadn't even considered tainted lids, so that's worth thinking about. I love beetroot, so we always have loads of empty jars and that's why I mentioned them in particular. I think the only other glass jars we might have are the Loyd Grossman pasta sauces, but the lids on them can be quite stained.
I like the sound of the rice pudding. I don't think I've ever had homemade, I bet it tastes lovely.
Less...
I like the 'very white' hydrangea, Dusty.
I've been in the garden this afternoon and couldn't resist this perfect dandelion clock - they really are a work of art. I propped it in between two mossy/lichen tree branches to take the pic...

I think this is a first on here... sheep bum
Surely, only a couple of weeks ago....
But your shot was far more interestingly posed.5 -
Ooh, I do apologise, Dusty. Lots of sheep bums there'A watched potato will never chit'...3

Great photos ,PP well done on the dandelion moving into position without losing the seed 😳 lovely composition. Also the sheep bum, I have to say I so wanted to push its bum back to safety!
Dusty the white of that hydrangea against the dark background really makes it pop. What is it about a pink sky that makes us want to capture it? Such a big haul of produce to tomatoes and apples. I have read people do bags of liquid things lying flat like an envelope then they fit in freezer neatly. I suppose bags can be stood in a Tupperware style box to stop spillage.
2p thanks for the recipe, I was going to ask too. Do you reckon it would freeze ok? Or would it need to be cooked? I love a mince pie but the gluten free ones are expensive, I’ve often thought I should make them. I know you don’t cook to store it but have you tried to warm it or does it get cooked when you make pies with it? I don’t cook much can you tell 😉😂 I bake my own gluten free cakes though.
weather here Saturday was good and lasted until I got home from an afternoon drinks with girls from work, I was home for teatime and within half an hour the rain started. Sunday was a decent morning followed by rain the rest of the day and all Monday.
The last bit of gardening I did was Thursday retrimming the shrubs at the front, mowing the lawn at the back. Not sure I’ll get anymore in before a hol next week. Chasing a bit of summer. So did some holiday clothes sorting at the weekend.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5 -
Those recipes look v tasty 2p, I'll read that page again on my phone and screenshot them
Which reminds me - who was asking about making sloe gin...? I forgot to say about sugar, you add about the same weight of brown sugar as the fruit, and give it a good shake every few days 'til the sugar's dissolved rightly. And while we're on things I forgot, I took the gabion pic for someone on here but I can't remember who it is that particularly likes them! (wort I think, and wm maybe?) Anyway.
I'd love to have a cutting and grow my own ambrosia tree but Leominster is a hell of a poke just to rip a bit off someone's treeMaybe next year. We're just eating the apples pp, no cooking or messing, just a rinse wipe and eat them
It'd be a sin to do anything else tbh, the flavour and fragrance is amazing. Depending how far you want to travel 2p, Malvern is having it's Autumn Fayre this weekend (lots of apple-y goodness there I'd say) and there were signs out around a lot of the villages round that way that they're doing something about now. If you've nothing round about you..?
I'm not commenting on your pic Less, everything I thought of putting just reads filthy ha haa! So I'll just say it's a very atmospheric picI love a hydrangea and your white one is especially appealing Dusty, and that's a great clock pic pp. Now you're getting all wizzy with your phone will you have that as a screensaver or summat?
OT rained from just after lunch yesterday and hardly stopped 'til the evening, so the sobers were right. Tusky was too mind. The drunkards were possibly right if they gave that forecast for somewhere else, sounds more like Farway Towers weather than ours  Are any of us in the flooded areas? Everyone ok? I need to shift meself, food shopping, washing x lots of, dentist at 2, and I've got to weed again. It really is like painting the Forth bridge grrrIf proper stuff would just grow faster and/or stop bluddy heading northwards the soil wouldn't be so bare and It'd solve itself. #NeverHappy
I don't wanna shut up, I want a 7up and a 10p mix-up.5 -
No need for apologies, pp.
For all anyone knows, I may be sponsored by the English Wool Executive (EWE) and posting subliminally positive sheep imagery in return for certain err..... considerations. I believe this sort of thing is common nowadays.
However, one look at my personal wardrobe would probably dispel most doubts!
Oh, and before someone raises the fact there are 13 sheep in my photo, I'm not in that club either. Baaa!As Larry Grayson would have said, “Another grey day!” But even greys and muted greens and browns can be attractive, as your dandelion photo proves. That reminds me of four or five entries in the Garden Club show, where an arrangement of greens was the theme. The judge was scathing, because everyone strayed from the righteous path of green-ness. Here's his comment:So there! The entries were actually magnificent. It's unfair to pick one, but I'm sure the others won't mind:

"Another grey day" sums it up nicely here as well Dusty. And damp, must've rained overnight again, raindrops clinging on leaves.YoungBlueEyes said:I'd love to have a cutting and grow my own ambrosia tree but Leominster is a hell of a poke just to rip a bit off someone's tree

PP, seeing your dandelion clock reminded me that I've yet to try the "hack" of photographing one laying on a tablet screen with fluffy clouds, blue sky.If done properly, it appears to be a clever clogs pic of it flying up & away.Somewhat similar to sheep bum against blue skyI like that Green arrangement Dusty, takes some thinking about to get shades of green, it seems after all these years folks still don't read and digest the schedules. That was one thing I did get drummed into me, six means six, not five or seven.Still too soggy to get out on apple & grape patrol, but I have moved last week's apples, stewed, into freezer, on apples, listening to Farming Today this morning they reckon UK apple crop is very poor this yearDue to 2023 wet winter & 2024 long cold spring. Which answers my question on the lack of apples on my normally good tree, despite loads of blossom.I've noticed my pyracantha is the same, very sparse berries this year, last year it was laden, if it's general a lot of birds will need extra grub putting outIn keeping with brighten up a grey day theme, here's one from Wisley greenhouse the other dayEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7 -
I was the same with the sheep, wort, willing it to move away from the edge.
Where are you going on your hols?? I'm away in a couple of week's time, further up North, so I'm packing lots of waterproofs
I'm glad you mentioned taking a screenshot of twopenny's recipe, YBE, I've just done it
I always have family pics as screensavers - I miss my DD who stayed in England when we moved, so it's nice to 'see' her every day.
Enjoy your apples.
Dusty, I like that green display as well, but what a snippy note from the judge.
What a lovely pic, Farway, looks very exotic.
The dandelion clock 'hack' sounds clever and sneaky at the same time
Forecast for today is/was light rain and drizzle... it's been lovely so far...
Workman is back next door with his poor choice of radio station/music, so no gardening for me today. I think I'll do some internet shopping'A watched potato will never chit'...3 -
Oops I missed your post wort - where you going on hol? Somewhere nice it sounds like
Am I the only one wanting to know how that sheep got up there, so I can go up too and see whatever it is that’s got him so engrossed…?
I like the judge's comments Dusty, he sounds like an exasperated man! That display is lovely though, reminds me of the sort of display you'd see in a glass dome with a wee stuffed bird in itI didn't spot that there are 13 sheep in your photo - very zen
I was thinking of growing some Ambrosia trees from seed Farway, I'd be that happy if it worked. I could swop out my Discovery Tescoii so I''d not even need to find room for it... I don't know how long it takes to go from planting a seed to harvesting the apples (years I guess?) but if anyone wants some seeds I've plenty here to go round. I'd offer to send whole apples but all the ones we've got left now are bruised windfalls. Your Wisley flower pic made me giggle. I'll be clean and say it looks like it's sticking it's tongue out
Screenshotting (sp?) stuff is addictive pp, I reckon half my phone is just photos and screenshots. It's good for recipes and things you want to read because you can do it even if the website is down being improved or you've a weak signal or whatever because you're only reading a photo. And if you flick your phone to 'airplane mode' it'll help eek out the last bit of your battery if it's low
Nice morning here, cool and sunny and the humidity's lifting now. I got 3 washes out yesterday with it being sunny and mild and a bit breezy forecast lovely all day and then it bluddy rained! Taking wet washing to the tumblers is a winter thing, not a September thing. Grrr. And the dentist did a right job on me teefs - evidently a scale+polish done "properly" will take about half your teeth off. 'Ave gorra wery hurty gob this morningI'm sat here drinking me tea through a straw ha haa!
Here's a weather pic. It must have rained in the night, and look at how the raindrops have dried on my window. They look like snowflakesQueer eh, I’ve never seen that before!I don't wanna shut up, I want a 7up and a 10p mix-up.6 -
Oh and speaking of photos, here’s a holiday snap. We weren’t even in Glasgow!I don't wanna shut up, I want a 7up and a 10p mix-up.6
