And yet ...
Your DD clearly doesn't believe what you say. And frankly, I wouldn't be encouraging her to get her own pets once she's in her own place: who do you think will be expected to look after them any time she can't?Signature removed for peace of mind1 -
As others have mentioned, I’ve had guinea pigs for most of my life and not one has been litter trained. You can catch most of it by having a hay lined tray under their food / water / hay but they will always go elsewhere too.Guinea pigs really need company, it’s not fair to keep them alone. I have always had a neutered boar + various sows together. I rescue so the boars were already neutered before they came to me, which makes things a lot easier and means I don’t have to worry about pairing boys up!We adore our piggies. We have two at the moment (boy and girl) and they live in a 6ft by 3ft guinea pig table in my office. Very spoiled! Will rescue another girl soon as our boy is 8+ years old and I don’t want one being left alone, even if only for a short while.Where do you live? Perhaps we could suggest a rescue to approach to find your little one a friend?2

If you watch it you can anticipate them going as they stretch out their hind end before going. I did that with mone and was able to move them onto paper.
I am not aware of them being litter trained. Rabbits yes but guinea pigs no.0
