Hargreaves Lansdown - Active Savings

Opened an Active Savings account with HL and tried to fund one of the savings accounts but it kept saying my deposit was over the max allowed. Eventually noticed the max allowed was shown as ~£10, thinking it was a glitch left it till the following day, but the same happened. Called them and was eventually told the account I was after must have reached its limit for new money. Having a limit is fair enough but continuing to advertise an account that can only take a minimal amount is sharp practice.

Is it normal for them to offer a lower rate than going direct too?

The example I notice this afternoon is this:

Not a massive undercut, granted, but less all the same.

Oh, and now this one, on a 1 Year Fixed:

Some are lower, some are higher and some are the same.

I have opened the Coventry version with HL for convenience but I suspect the access would be more instant (fast payment) if I went with Coventry direct?
  • They are probably no different to Raisin, I suppose.

Raisin rates seem a lot poorer as do those available via A J Bell Youinvest.
  • Noted. Don't use an intermediary myself, but thanks.

They have to earn their margin somewhere.

Rates can be better, worse, or the same as going direct. Sometimes going direct isn't an option. Sometimes having the convenience of managing it through a central hub rather than multiple log-ins overcomes 0.01% interest lost  ;)
