My credit score ranges from very good (Experian) to Stable (equifax) and good with Transunion.
I have a mortgage of £800 a month, the usual household bills, and two credit cards, one with Halifax which has around £2000 on it and gets £200 a month sent to it, the other is MBNA and has around £4000 on it and gets £100 a month sent to it.
That might seem backwards but the Halifax card is under a balance transfer so the £200 takes off the balance directly, the idea is once this initial balance has cleared to shift the balance from the MBNA card again and continue paying it off whilst under 0% interest.
The credit limit of each card is around £8000 so combined I am under 50% utilization (6000/16000) (which I'm told could be a concern).

I need to make a rather large purchase (£3000 or so) for hardware for my work and I am wondering the best way to do this rather by using a personal loan or one of my credit cards to fund the purchase?

Credit Club says I am 95% likely to be accepted for a 9% APR personal loan, the company I'm buying from offer their own finance with a xx% deposit but around 11% interest.
and I believe my credit cards are around 20% APR (19,9%)
Logically, if I am understanding this correctly, I would presume the extra personal loan would add as additional available credit so actually decrease my credit utlization than if I made the purchase on one of my credit cards (choice between a 5k or 7k balance)?

Would a loan be the best way forward in this scenario?

Thanks all!

You'll struggle to get a decent deal with your current indebtedness.  Try an eligibilty checker for the various options.

Your total indebtedness will be the same, so you need to take the cheapest options.

Make sure you pay as much as you can to the interest bearing card, not the 0% one, as you're currently throwing money down the toilet.

You need to buy some hardware for work.  Is this your own business (sole trader or Ltd Co.) or are you employed PAYE?
If you are employed PAYE, your employer should reimburse the expenses so that you do not incur credit costs.

Why can’t you buy it out of your business account or credit card ?

I don't have the entire funds in my account (enough for a downpayment) and this thread is asking about credit cards which already have balance on them
  • All sorted. Spoke to my partner and looked through the options, decided to go for the loan option and have been approved with the post office for 8.9% APR. Thanks for your help!
