Need to claim UC no ID or bank account

Hi all,
A friend of mine needs to make a claim for UC but she has no ID or a bank account (long story short her ex lost all her documents a couple of years ago)

What would be the easiest approach to go about this? I assume she would need a basic bank account before she can put the claim in. All she has is her NI number which she memorised..

Thanks in advance

She should be able to get a copy of her birth certificate, which can then hopefully be used to get other ID.

She'll need a bank account to claim UC. Once the bank account is open then she can use her debit card along with 1 other ID like birth certificate.

UC have a biographical way of carrying out ID check, when someone does not have possession of ID documents. And it is possible to use a trusted friend/relatives bank account for a short period to receive UC payments and to later switch to own bank account when set up.

The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

You can also request a special patment via a code that can be sent to a mobile which you show at a Paypoint I think it is, but they are an emergency type of thing and not well advertised. https://www.gov.uk/payment-exception-service

But she'll need ID to open a bank account.
