Loft Insulation - Green Homes grant

I got a quote via the green homes scheme for loft insulation. I expected the quotes to be inflated but was wondering how much this one is inflated by. It's for 200mm of fluffy insulation over 168 square metres of attic. Total cost is c. £1450 all in. I'd get 2/3 off so roughly £450 to pay. Materials look like about £3 per square metre; if so I reckon that quote is at least £500 too much but since I only pay 1/3, an OK deal for me, especially as it should qualify me for a grant for a new external door. Any thoughts?

It'll qualify you for a door installed at inflated prices...0

Have a look at the ECO scheme funded by the main energy suppliers. From EDF (you don't have to be a customer of theirs) - https://www.edfenergy.com/insulation/loft-insulationshinytop said: I got a quote via the green homes scheme for loft insulation.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Quick calculation says to buy from b and q works out at 535 , so it is cheaper for you to have it done via the grant and no need to get hot and sweaty laying it!
But yes it is overpriced
And as above do more research you could get it for free1 -
It looks like EDF only do their own customers and for any supplier you need to be in receipt of a qualifying benefit. That's changed because I got loft insulation free a few years ago at my old house.Homer_home said:Quick calculation says to buy from b and q works out at 535 , so it is cheaper for you to have it done via the grant and no need to get hot and sweaty laying it!

So yes it's cheaper (and less effort) for me and if I can get 2/3 off even an overpriced door (that I' like anyway) then it's definitely worth it for me (if not the taxpayer!). I'm getting another quote next week so will report back in case anyone is interested.0 -
Please do , I'm always interested!0

Seems like a decent deal, if madness for the taxpayer.
How did you find people to quote for this? I'm in a similar position, wanting top up of loft insulation and an external door.
When I search on the trust mark web site, there are no installers in London south of the river, which doesn't seem right. The ones I've contacted north of the river (a long way from me) don't seem to want to know.
Thanks,0 -
I just contacted the ones in my area; luckily there was one reasonably near me. I haven't got my second quote yet; I'm now on a waiting list and they say it will be next week so we'll see.1
