DVLA Scam Text

Received a text from DVLA who seem to be using someone's personal mobile rather than their own number! They tell me that I have a refund due because I overpaid when renewing my Road Fund Licence! Number was +447432036881 in case anyone else receives one. I blocked number and deleted the text. Be on your guard. Checking the number with Auntie Google did not produce any hits.

People can just make up their own presentation number. There is no regulation on this, so it's not surprising that it doesn't register on Google1

As above scammers can spoof the originating number. 07432 would originally belong to the EE network (but could be on any network due to PAC).1

Must be the week for it - the O2 scam seems to be making the rounds this week as well.

I would have thought if you were attempting to spoof a number, you would at least pick one that looked like a proper DVLA number.1
