NPower bill - they changed their minds

I move house 18 months ago. When I moved out, I gave my final meter readings and they said that the final meter reading was enough to power the whole street (ie. thousands of pounds). They messed my readings up because they somehow thought I had a smart meter - I didn't. No idea whose smart meter reading they were looking at. I agreed to pay the estimated bill instead. I got a final bill after I had moved which I complained about since I am positive they still didn't know which period my bill was for.
I then received an email a few months later saying that my final outstanding bill was a further 58 pounds. I paid half with a view of paying the second half but got a letter saying there is no need to pay. Today I got a phone-call saying I owed over £200. Furious! I was a joint Gas and Electricity customer for 13 years.
I am really loathed to pay it

Hi.do you have a note of the final meter readings when you left the house, if so, how do they compare to the latest bill?0
-
Write - don't phone or email a letter headed COMPLAINT
Stick to the factsNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Yes I have the final meter readings. I've not had a bill, I've just had a phone-call. Obviously, when they told me my final outstanding balance was 50 pounds, I wasn't expecting that to change over a year later0

Maybe ask them to check for back billing? If they've been billing on the incorrect metering, then this would apply if I'm not mistaken (unless it's already been applied)?0
