Not  a question, just for your info.
I SORN'd my 'bike online on Monday afternoon (28/9/20), got the refund in the post this morning (2/10/20).
Not bad ;)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

    Great stuff, well done!
Good to hear stories like this where 'Covid' is not being used as an excuse to delay things.

As long as it is done on line there is no human involvement and things happen quickly.  If you try and do it by paper then it is a whole different story.
My SIL got a car at the beginning of July and the seller decided to change keeper by post, V5 issued 28th September !

I have had several dealings with DVLA recently - all online.  Took a personal number plate off a motorcycle, traded in the motorcycle, bought a new motorcycle and put personal plate on my car.  All documents and my refund for unused tax on the old bike received within a few working days.  The system appears to be working very well.

I've had a couple of good experiences with the DVLA this year. Sorted out OH's private plate, new V5 arrived in a few days. Bought a new car myself, got the V5 within a week and then put my private plate on it and got the V5 even quicker. Prior to this I've not had to deal with them for years (apart from buying tax) but have to say they've been really good.
  • TIDY as they would say at the DVLA.
  • Not tax related but i bought my car on the Sunday in August and received the V5C through on the Wednesday of the next week (i'm a Monday is start of the week guy - so 3 days). All done online. Great stuff?

Though why do you get charged admin fees for making alterations on your insurance online when it's all done automatic? I get if if you phone them up and someone has to process paperwork but when it's online and no documents are sent out??

Because they can and the public just look at the headline quote, so you price it very tight to win the business and make your money on any extras, including changes.

You appear to be labouring under the assumption that the only admin involved in a vehicle change is producing new documents.  Which, of course, it is not the case.   That said, some brokers are better than others in this respect.  When I changed one of the bikes on my motorcycle policy I was charged an admin fee.  When I changed the registration details for my car, with a different broker,  I was not.

How do you know its all automatic.
Many of the updates will trigger someone to do some manual updates.
End of the day even if it is done by computer, there is still the cost of the setting up and running of the systems.
