Smart Meter EON and Standing Charges
Ive had EONs smart the meter for about 2 years and every morning the display generally showed around £0.28-29p before I had switched anything on. The only thing on would be the virgin hub and the fridge freezer barely using anything. TV not even on standby. By the end of the day is shows around £0.80-£1 depending on use whihc is fine Just lately though that starting figure has jumped to £0.51p so it appears before ive used any gas or electric its costing me around £15 a month as opposed to around £9 a month - should I take this up with EON as a faulty meter? Thats a heck of jump and I am fearing my bill will reflect a big increase each month......I was on their V27 online fix and recently changed to a new fix i think it was V40 but dont recall if that showed an increase in the standing daily charges. But almost double is surely not correct?

You are looking at the 'In Home Device' or IHD, not the meter.Check your online account and see what the daily standing charges are for your current tariff, and remember to include the 5% VAT...0

Just for further clarity, the IHD does not determine your billing, it merely reflects how it has been set by your provider and will only provide a close approximation of your likely bill as long as it is still in smart mode and is being updated by your provider.A 'faulty' meter cannot affect your daily standing charges and similarly if the IHD had been incorrectly set by your provider it would still only affect the number displayed on the IHD and would not affect your bill.So check your current tariff and see what the actual standing charges are, and in general, £0.51 for both gas and electric isn't far off what most recent tariff renewals are seeing I suspect...0

@Darenth87 Details of the standing charges will be on your latest bill.
Has your fix run out and are you now on a standard tariff ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
A rare example of a smart meter doing what was intended - keeping its owner aware of energy costs. Amusing that the initial reaction is that it's faulty!!

Hi Darenth87,
I agree with everyone here, I do miss my thanks button so thank you!
If you log in to your online account and click on your current tariff, you'll see the exact amount of standing charge and the unit prices for the tariff you have picked.
It also shows on your bills, so you can have a look on there.
If you need any help though, just ask.
Thank you
