Switching bank

I've got a building society account. I want to switch to another bank where I can get my first debit card. Llyods bank is a no go because they require my building society to provide me with a debit or credit card before I switch, but they have never ever had cards before. So what other banks are there where I can switch to? I don't want HSBC... they shady man

If you haven't got a debit card for your building society account then it sounds like it's a savings account, not a current account. You can't switch savings accounts, you can only switch current accounts.

You simply need to apply for a new current account without switching.

Looking at their switch forms, it appears that Natwest, RBS and Ulster do also support the switch of savings accounts. I don't know anyone who has used this functionality, so I don't know what is involved or covered. It is most likely a great deal simpler to just apply for a current account, and to transfer some or all of the balance into that current account yourself.

BTW, you don't switch banks, you just switch accounts. You are also allowed to have accounts at different banks and building societies.

Does your building society appear on the list here? https://www.currentaccountswitch.co.uk/banksandbuildingsocieties/Pages/banks.aspx

If not then they are not a part of CASS and you cannot use the CASS switching service. Otherwise as above, check if your account is a "current" account instead of a "savings" account.

A debit card isn't required for CASS if the account isn't issued with one, but if one is issued you need to include it on the form or else the switch could fail.
