DFS order cancelled

Hi
Please can someone help on where I stand with DFS
We ordered a sofa from them and got rid of our old sofa a day before the new one was delivered. When it was delivered found they had ordered the wrong size and the wrong fabric. They finally admitted that the sofa we ordered could not be made in the spec we wanted! However I have now cancelled the order and bought another sofa from Next but this won't be ready until Xmas. I want DFS to refund my money and provide me a loan sofa until my Next sofa arrives . They have offered the refund but no loan sofa . Can they do this considering its their fault I have no sofa now until Xmas!

Yes they can. In hindsight you really shouldn't have got rid of the old one until the new one had arrived safely.
Ikea sell some fairly cheap sofas you could use, or maybe try gumtree or freecycle.2 -
A refund is all you’re entitled to. They might have been a bit more co-operative, and offered some kind of goodwill gesture if you’d ordered another sofa from them - but as you’ve upped sticks and gone to another supplier - a refund is all you’re going to get.2

Since you cancelled the order they no longer have a contract with you and you are no longer their customer, so why would they have any obligation to lend you a sofa?Speak to Next to see if they'll lend you a sofa. At least you have a contract with them...2

As you have cancelled the contract with DFS then you are entitled to a refund, but they cannot lend you a sofa as you are not a customer (because you cancelled).floral1234 said:Hi

Why not try on Facebook and find a free sofa? So many sofas going free where I live!!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
At least you now know not to get rid of something until you have your replacement in the future.0

Jumping the gun is a common theme with this kind of thing - I've seen many posts exactly the same over the years for both sofas and beds.
Golden rule - don't chuck the old one until the new one is actually there!
I remember a thread on here where someone did it with a fridge - they scrapped their old (working) one that morning and when the new one was too damaged to deliver, they blamed the company for the fact they had nowhere to store food. The mind boggles...1 -
Golden rule is actually avoid DFS. They haven't changed their practices for decades, yet people still go there.2
