Selling on FB Marketplace and Buyers Trying to Use UPS

I advertised an item on Marketplace for £50, I was immediately contacted by ‘Josef’ who said he would send UPS to collect, I then had an email supposedly from UPS stating that I had to pay £170 insurance costs to the driver, ‘Josef’ said this would be re-imbursed but reading this thread it’s clearly a scam, he has my email, home address & mobile number, he said there would be legal action when I said I was cancelling the sale. I’m hoping there’s no repercussions.0

My rule with FB Marketplace (and Gumtree) is to treat it as cash on collection like an old advert on the supermarket notice board. Strictly no posting or PayPal/bank transfers on the doorstep.3

Thank you for this thread! The same thing happened to me today.I am selling a a sofa for €1000 (in Ireland), which I advertised on a local FB marketplace. Somebody says they will buy it, but they are not picking it up themselves. They want it picked up by DPD. DPD will, the customer says, bring me the money personally, I will check the money, and then they will pick up the furniture. I agreed to that. And then the customer says, they will pay the shipping costs, but I have to pay the insurance costs, which will be reimbursed along with the purchase price. My spidey sense was activated.I said that I am not paying anything in advance. The customer replied:"It is very easy to understand, DPD will send a very reliable courier from their group of factors to pay you personally so the payment will be face to face once you have the money in hand give it to him thank you very much, DPD Express is a company and the service will come to your home tomorrow once at your home the service will give you your money in cash and the service will take the item. and you will only receive the money from the"
So I asked friends for advice, and they all said "scam", and then I came here to have it confirmed.

Did the regular posters on here watch the BBC scam interceptors program last night ?
I find that of all the utter rubbish on TV this show actually is step in the right direction regarding the scammers they highlight .
I wondered how the BBC was actually able to track and view the scammers online which was a wake up call in it self .0 -

Even the fact that they didn't haggle was suspicious. If you're the only purchaser for a €1000 sofa after two weeks, surely you'd try to get the price down!0 -
Still doing the rounds! Someone said they couldn't collect as they were at work, but when I asked where they lived they said, Carlisle - and we live in the South West! Beware.0
