HSBC new account no telephone reg key?

Hi. Can anyone suggest me anything. I'm so confused. I opened a new HSBC account and got the card and pin on Monday. To set up internet banking it says I need a telephone banking number which I would have done when registering apparently. I don't think I did one. So I rang customer services which the automatic line asked me for digit 4 and 2. I got it wrong both times. It said my telephone banking number is blocked and needs to be reset. I got through to cust services who said a telephone banking number has been sent out to me and wait for it? I then tried registering my card but it says there's a security block on it. So I phoned up again and they said they can't do anything until I get my telephone banking number?
Like anyone know wth I'm meant to do now? Other then wait?   This is so weird...

You are further down the line than me - only got the card.

I found HSBC to be a bit cumbersome to set up, moreso than FD or M&S Bank that's for sure. I also never got the telephone banking PIN form and was also very sure I never set up anything during the account opening process, so after about 6 weeks and a few grumpy phone calls later assuring me the form was "on it's way" I ended up just going into a branch and sorting it out there. They needed some ID and a copy of my signature to match what was on their files and then the lady let me enter a code on her computer. Later that day I called up to change it, since she was looking over my shoulder whilst I set it and didn't think that was all terribly secure, but everything else was super easy after getting the PIN set. It's slightly annoying that everything hinges on it - online banking, getting your debit card activated, etc.

I couldn't agree more, I have just managed to get online banking working (in the last hour), to cut a long story short, I rang a second time and registered for a telephone security number and with that went through the rest of the procedure.

My advice is to keep ringing and you will eventually get there.

I couldn't help thinking of the irony of being asked for my telephone banking number when that was what I was ringing to get :s

If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you!

My experience of opening a HSBC advanced account

Applied 20/9 accepted and filled in the cass switch form at the same time, said would received an email immediately, no email, welcome email arrived 3 days later explaining the account and following will arrive in the post: sort code & account number, debit card, pin, credit card (if applicable) and telephone banking ID

Few days later debit card and pin arrive

30/9  switch current account confirmation papers arrive

2/10 telephone banking ID arrives (hurrah!)

One thing that MAY identify if your telephone banking ID is in the post is to call 03457404404, enter your sort code and account number, if the auto voice asks for certain digits of your your telephone ID it could mean they've already registered it and it's in the post and you can end the call
