Do people lie about their age when joining breakdown cover

The insurers wouldn't be guessing that older people (or people in a certain age group) claim more or less than others, they would have reams of stats to see for themselves. Perhaps older people are more savvy about their cars and check the basics (oil, tyre pressures etc) more regularly? They may decide not to drive off when the engine's making a funny noise whereas perhaps someone with less driving experience might not recognise anything was amiss?

I don't think I've been asked my age when buying breakdown cover.0

I would not lie about my age, especially not for the small difference identified in this thread. It could also back-fire if the link is made by insurance co to another more age-sensitive product where the correct age has been declared.
I have tried to think, though, about whether there is a variance in risk related to the individual's age (rather than the age of the car). I suppose, my nephew is more likely to travel far at unsociable hours to a remote location with the car making a "funny noise" when he set off than my mother who does not like to drive at night or on the motorway and definitely won't use the car if there is any kind of light or noise she does not expect... Perhaps that's it.0 -

This is not about insurance fraud
Do you work for an insurance provider by some chance?Providing false information to make a financial gain is fraud. Doing so in an insurance proposal is generally described as "insurance fraud".However, that is not a legal term. In law there is simply fraud, which is an imprisonable offence. The courts do not distinguish between insurers and other fraud victims.

...Er’indoors has been lying about her age for years.
