I've got cover from homeserve on a 6 yr old baxi boiler and so glad. Currently the boiler is going mad, thought the thermostat upstairs was broke as heating constantly. Got them out and they replaced it, still going mad. Now they're replacing a valve which gives us dual control.
Did you find it good value for money @_shel?
Id say so. I pay £13 a month and get my yearly service.
Up to now this repair has cost £70 just for parts and he says the valve will be another £150 again not including labour.

    Thanks @_shel
Was that an extra £70 on top of the monthly fee? Just intrigued - does sound tempting but I feel like that there has been a bit of work on the boiler that I surely hope that there won't be anymore!
Was it a good service too?

No, i mean thats what they have spent trying to fix it.
Easy to deal with all online and the repair man has been really helpful.

I used to have a D&G plan but they kept asking me to add more and more electrical items to it and when I thought about it I felt I was just throwing money I could ill afford to lose down a big pit. I woke up when I bought a washer from John Lewis and it came with a two year guarantee for parts and labour and I thought, hang on - why should I now start paying D&G even more than I am paying already to cover something that's already covered? Duh.

And if items don't last as long as they should, you can make a claim if they aren't 'fit for purpose'. Not to mention that buying using a credit card will cover you under Section 75.

I think D&G is a total rip off. As matelodave said, you'd be better off saving your money in a fund yourself. Same with any other boiler cover. My boiler has just expired but it's been working for the last 15 years. I think it needs to retire now, they don't go on forever and we need an updated model.

I don't think that items are so badly made these days that you need to insure them left, right and  centre. Keep your money for yourself and dump D&G - would be my advice.

PS I'd have had to tackle that builder first, though!! Don't they do a 10 year guarantee any more? And if all the houses they built suffered from rubbish boilers, I'd have thought everyone else would be complaining. Builder should have put things right first before anyone even thought of taking out insurance.

  • 2022 reviving this thread. I had the same problem as the Author, incompetent Builder and installation and issues like the other person only popped up in year 3. I was passed over to a slick salesman at Baxi who said 350 to fix it or 13 a month. So I signed up and Baxi guy went round put he boiler at risk and refused to even look at is as the original installer had no installed it correctly. My plumber just said same as above forget the insurance and save the pot, for 150 a year, a 3y old boiler that had a 7y warranty not much can go wrong that will cost 150 or 450 after 3years. So will cancel. Make sure you get annual services or the warranty will be void like mine was but even in valid Baxi could not have fixed it due to original installation issue. Hope this helps someone
