I bought a Pug 106 last year that had been in the same family since new, so that's 22 years. I am now anticipating that I will continue to use it and fix it. I love it. My son's studying mechanics so even if it's unfixable I can still find a use for it, but I don't think it will be unfixable as parts are so cheap. Had the catalytic converter changed recently, £65.00. it's so cheap to fix, I can't see me scrapping it.0

For over 40 years now I've always done my own mechanical work any time I have had to go to a garage the work has been rushed sloppy or even dangerous one place fixed the cills with chicken wire and filler when I had sent it in for new cills to be welded on.. before this they fitted the lower wishbone bolts the wrong way around.Chocolate is the solution to all life's problems. gatra_2 said:Okay, so I will start the ball rolling I met Martin once he did a TV show "Make Me Rich" and my program was about buying a new 8 seat mini bus and he covered all ways of buying it. In the end we ignored Martin and bought a cheap old one cash for around £700, this gave around 6 years of trouble free running till we did the head gasket while up in Scotland.
Using the Camping and Caravan Club / RAC Arrival recommended by Martin they towed the van and caravan home over 300 miles, not having the time to fix the old girl before we had to get the ferry for the Isle of Wight the following week we where left in a right panic to source a new van for the planned 6 week holiday, so a quick visit to Fords we picked up a 6 month old, one owner ex-lease, a lot cheaper than a new one this was back in 2011 and we still have it now in 2020 like the last old girl has given trouble free running since the day we took ownership of it....... 9yrs now and still running well. Oh we later repaired and sold the old bus for £550 and it was then exported to Africa to continue it's life there....
I do have a Cortina Mk3 we bought new in 1972 and still have it 48yrs later running trouble free..... can you beat that.... think I have a picture of Martin next to it somewhere.....0 -
I have one car as my daily and have owned it 10 years, far longer than I had planned to keep it but I've saved a shed load by just keeping it going rather than chopping and changing every few years...it's getting on 16 years old now so will look to move it on soon as it's feeling a bit leggy but it's been v reliable and used for everything..shopping, tip runs, hauling bricks and tiles you name it!0

Ford Fiesta for over 8 years. Bought it when it was less than a year old and had under 1,000 miles (£9,500). Apart from the usual servicing cost and faults, I've had to replace the battery and clutch (both of which failed when picking my son up from nursery). Going to drive it into the ground before I even think of getting another car.0

Look after them service them and they will look after you.
