Used Car from Main Dealer

Options
Hi.
I have seen a used audi a4 3.0 quattro S line at a main dealer. The car is on a 17 plate with 30k on the clock.
I have enquired about it but did some of my own research as well. The tax on this car expired back in January meaning it has not been on the roads or driven since then. The mileage on the car has also done about 100 miles in 7 months. It seems the car has been stuck and not driven.
Has anyone had this before? I always thought if a car fails to sell at a main dealer within 3 months then it would go to auction

It's up to the dealer if they want it sat around or not. They don't have to auction it. Apparently there has been a nasty bug going round recently which seems to have slowed things like car sales up a fair bit. I've heard a rumour that car showrooms may have actually been closed for a bit so they won't have done anything with it.
    hahah i love that reply
  • Good factual reply though
No doubt there will be millions of vehicle around with less than average mileage done on them over the last 12 months

No tax does not mean it hasn't been driven. Dealers use trade plates for test drives etc.
  • I wouldn't worry too much, unless it was older and kept outside for months during cold weather then the battery may well have taken a hit.

I would check that it brakes in a straight line and the hand brake is all good, test air conditioning as well.

Good question about the handbrake. Would it be electric by any chance? If that is the case and been on all that time I would be very wary of it. Hopefully it was just kept in gear with the handbrake not on........

    Dear OP
Main dealers will often have really nice, one owner cars as we often p/x ours low miles, one driver and looks like new.
With the advent of Covid, most dealers are having probs but are selling quiet well higher end cars.
Check it was not parked on grass, mud. good test drive, check all electrics, etc and brakes no pulling etc and if
all is well and you love the maching, go for it as a main dealer will look after you in our experiences. Even brand new cars have probs. one of our new cars last year, a top flight car had a ding a couple of inches above the bottom of the door only noted when we took it home and our son spotted it in the sun. It could be seen once you noted it but most people could not see it until pointed out a ding it was - main dealer sent out repair person, paint less type and took out ding looked like new.

My current car had been sitting several months at a main dealer (accumulating discounts because it is an unpopular colour).  They advertise that they sell cars after a X point test - so ask when the test was or will be done?  Mine had its final check over just before I collected it.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.
