Has anyone used Tusker to lease an electric car?

I'm currently debating whether to lease an electric car via our company car scheme which is run by Tusker. On the face of it, it looks great. A brand new electric car with a 40% tax saving, and all road tax, insurance and maintenance included. I'm wondering whether it's truly as good as it sounds or whether there's a catch somewhere. I'd also be interested to hear what a typical monthly (net) payment is as our company won't be providing this info for a few weeks.
Thanks in advance!

  • Yes! Love our Kia e-niro which arrived in March. I'm in the 20% tax bracket so my cost is probably not useful, but the estimate they gave on their website was not far off (mine is a little lower than estimated, but as I changed my salary sacrifice childcare voucher amount at the same time, I'm not sure exactly what the difference is). We have not yet had to arrange any maintenance or anything so can't comment on that part of it. Tuskers arranged for us to get a home charge point installed free as well - are they still doing that?

The catch for me is the reduction in pension contribution and therefore pension I will finally get. £3000 per year on a car would hit me £61 per year in final pension payment (index linked paid for life). But I’m not a 40% tax payer and in a average salary (local government scheme) so can’t really make up the shortfall by just increasing my contributions.
  • That's a good point. My salary (in an average salary pension scheme) is reported to the pension provider before any salary sacrifice deductions, so there is no impact on my pension, but not every employer does it that way.
  • Thanks for the feedback @Bluebell1000 it's really encouraging that you've had a good experience and consider it good value for money.

  • @MX5huggy this is a good point, I'm lucky in the sense that pension is salary sacrifice too and so both are taken from gross salary.
