In that respect you are being treated no differently to anybody else. It makes no difference whether you have paid tax and NI for 2 or 42 years. Entitlement to contribution based benefit is based on the last 2 full years NI contributions, and entitlement to Income Based benefits such as Universal Credits has standard rules for everybody. The money paid under UC is intended to be for your own needs, not for adult children and/or extended family irrespective of where they live.alykhalil1 said:I have paid taxes & NI for 15 years and never ever claimed a penny. Now when i need help i feel i am being thrown from pole to the post.

CAB are basically wrong. Sorry.Dox said:
They certainly can, depending on the type of tenancy. See https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/housing/renting-a-home/subletting-and-lodging/lodging/rights-of-tenants-to-take-in-a-lodger/Comms69 said:
Tenancies cannot ban you from having a lodger.
Might also impact on OP's right to benefits if there take in a lodger. Downsizing to a cheaper property might be a better option.
The reality is that outside of a s.21, there's no enforcement available to these clauses.0 -
My country of origin is India and been in the UK 17 yrs. Never ever claimed a single Penney in my life but after i love my job i was in big financial trouble. My biggest expense was my parents and 3 boys abroad, who i was looking after financially eg, doctors fees, school fees, Uni fees, school transport, electric and water and gas,....A -Z.. and their curriculum. etc. Not the amount of illnesses i have is less than 12....diabetes, Rheumatoid arthritis, live cirosis, blood disorders (lack of vital minerals) etc etc....thnks allSavvy_Sue said:We can have all the sympathy in the world for your situation, but the fact remains that in benefit terms you seem to be claiming everything you are entitled to, and that would be the same regardless of your country of origin / how many years you've worked and paid taxes here / what you do with your money / your health issues. Benefits are not going to stretch as far as a regular salary would.
If you can't do the job you were doing before, look around for what you can do.0 -
I have read all the replies and your circumstances OP and it doesn’t seem to be anything else you can claim.
i think it’s either look for a job you can do or consider cutting your out going expenditure as best you can.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth
