Car insurance refused to add me as a named driver - does this count as being declined for insurance?
My partner tried to add me onto his car insurance but they declined me and would not say why. I just wondered if this counted when companies ask, "Have you ever had insurance declined, cancelled, void or special terms imposed?", or if this referred to personal insurance?
I've been searching for quotes since, saying yes, I have been declined and all the quotes are sky high because of it (they are very reasonable if I say no).
I guess I'm just hoping that a technicality will get me out of paying the sky high prices.
😔😩

A "refusal to quote" is not the same as cancelled, void etc and doesnt have to be declared... if it did then anyone with a luxury vehicle who's ever used an aggregater like confused.com would have to declare it as many bottom feeders/specialist wont look at insuring at £50k plus car etc.
Similarly it is your partner that got the response not you, even if you were the trigger, and so were it declarable it is they that would have to.0 -

When you have been searching for quotes, did you use your correct name and address?
If so, there is one thing that may possibly cause you problems:When obtaining quotes, it's possible for insurance companies to see these and if you have stated that you have previously had insurance declined then state that you haven't when taking out a policy, it could raise a flag with the insurer.ejregio said:I've been searching for quotes since, saying yes, I have been declined and all the quotes are sky high because of it (they are very reasonable if I say no).
There was a thread on here only a couple of days ago where someone was obtaining insurance quotes putting in various address locations but using their correct name and the result was that after they took out the policy, the insurer cancelled it due to the conflicting information.

Most times a contact centre says its going to an underwriter for a product like personal Car insurance it really is just going to a technical team who can see more in the system (if its a direct insurer, if its a broker then still a technical team at the insurer but probably a different system) and they may have a small level of discretion but more often or not they are just looking for an error.
If you look at commercial insurance then underwriters are more commonly involved as the premiums allow for human intervention and there is a lot more variance in need even if plenty of players are trying to commoditize SME cover0
