ECO3 Scheme - where to start?

My elderly parents have a gas boiler that must be over 20 years old.

I've been looking into whether the new Government green grant scheme would have enabled them to finally upgrade the boiler.

The answer to that is no.

However, upon reading into other options available, I came across the ECO scheme (Energy Company Obligations) and that the majority of energy suppliers are part of the scheme - I'm certain that my parents meet the required criteria.

However, I cannot seem to find a way to apply.

Is this something that they need to apply for via the supplier (Scottish Power), or does it go through third parties such as Simple Energy Advice?

If anybody can point me in the right direction, that would be excellent.

Thanks

You can apply directly to any of the energy companies involved. I applied via the Npower website.

The Green Grant scheme does not cover gas or oil boilers, only biomass or heat pumps.
    Do they qualify for ECO?
However, government funding is limited for this scheme and the benefits-related criteria are quite stringent. You need to receive at least one benefit, such as income support or pension credit guarantee credit, from its list of eligible benefits. Additionally, you must be earning less than £20,000 a year as a household. You’ll also need to own your own home or have permission from your landlord.
If they do, you can apply via SP or any of the participating energy suppliers.

  • Your parents would need to be claiming one of the below benifit to qualify. In addition your parents would have to have someone come to the property to carryout survey in order to determine what insulation measure can be installed to unlock funding for new boiler. The utility company demand that to unlock the funding for boiler the home must have Underfloor Insulation or cavity wall insulation fitted.
Also worth noting that there may be a contribution to pay depending on size of property.
I was one of the surveyors for a few years before I started my own eco company in Scotland.

This thread is 6 months old. The criteria may have changed.

At the moment E0N may not insist on insulation etc.

More info if you start your own thread.

    Good luck.
