Car damaged and repaired in airport car part?!

I went away for a long weekend at the end of August. A few weeks ago I was washing my car and noticed some paint on the rear light cluster, on closer inspection I could see that the rear quarter panel had been resprayed. For the record I have have not damaged or repaired the car myself since owning it!
I have requested photos and cctv from the airport carpark and awaiting their response, however, should they not cooperate, does anyone know where this leaves me with insurance, on close inspection it is a pretty bad job and needs rework as it is a fairly new car and this will massively devalue it when i come to sell it?

  • You could claim it through your insurance, though the excess may not make it worth it. They'll also probably want to know why the incident hasn't yet been declared.

How do you declare an incident you don't know about?

With unknown circumstances it’s 50/50 if insurers will cover it as it may have happened whilst your car was being driven (by someone not covered by your policy).

depending on how long you intend to keep the car somewhat defines the impact
  • I doubt the parking company are going to own up to anything.

Just playing devil's advocate but what evidence do you have that the damage/poor repair was done by them?  When did you last inspect your vehicle?

Does that mean you have not owned the car from new?
Could it have been repaired before your purchase?

Even if it was bought brand new, factory order - it's eminently possible that transit damage was repaired pre-delivery.

The chances of the airport parking company damaging it are reasonable. The chances of them repairing it while it's in their custody are roughly zero. They'd simply refer you to their insurers. And that's even if it was in their custody for a long enough period, not just a "long weekend" during a period when most businesses are working reduced hours and staff.
