Hello all,
Apologies if this is the wrong forum to post in but I need some advice, I'm really fed-up of the way Deliveroo has handled this.
On the evening of August 16th I ordered from a local take away. I phoned them directly to order some food and pay COD. About 20mins later I was outside and a delivery driver stopped his car and came to deliver the food at my house. I took the delivery and told him to hang on paid him. I opened the take away and it was the wrong order. I rang the restaurant where I ordered the food from and they said they were still preparing it for me, so I thought it's Deliveroo who always try and deliver take aways for the house in the opposite street but has the same number as my house. I take the food to the other house and the residents are on the phone to Deliveroo to say the order says delivered but they haven't received anything. The owner hands me the phone and I speak to a 'Mark' to explain the misunderstanding and can I have my money back of £18. He said he can't recall drivers I will have to make a rider complaint. I decide to contact Deliveroo an our later who send me a form to fill in describing the incident. After alot of email exchanges basically telling me they are investigating they have said their T&C's don't allow me a refund. All Deliveroo's are paid via the app, there is no reason I should have paid them. The point I've been trying to make is I wasn't their customer, I don't use d
Deliveroo, their driver should not have delivered to mine in the first place and when I called them of their mistake they should have recalled the driver back to my house. It's just sheer bad luck I happened to order when the guys down the road ordered. At the very least how can I find out what they did to investigate this. I've suggested a Subject Access Request as I want to see their investigation.
Thanks for reading.

A subject access request for an £18 takeaway?  Give me strength.

You jumped in and paid the driver before checking it was your order. Unfortunate and an understandable mistake in the circumstances, but does it really warrant an investigation?

You've effectively tipped the driver £18 for delivering your neighbour's takeaway to you. I can't see how you're going to get that back.

Edited, because I misunderstood OP's wall of text and thought they'd ordered from Deliveroo when in fact, they hadn't.  I think.

So you gave a big tip to a driver for your neighbour and then paid for your own food?

Either join Deliveroo or pay on ordering to avoid handing over cash when the food or, seeing as you suggest this isn’t the first time, double check the address before handing the money, The Deliveroo bag may be a clue it’s not yours

Obviously if they'd delivered in a Deliveroo bag (or even had Deliveroo branding on clothes vehicle etc.) I'd have known its not my order. Will just let it go
  • Why did you not just get your neighbour to pay you?

Why did you not just get your neighbour to pay you?
Why would they do that? They already paid via the app.

If they paid via the app, why did the deliveroo driver also expect payment? Were they chancing their arm?

Who said the driver expected payment, he probably thought it would be a tip and kept quiet when handed the money.
