If it was a credit card raise a Section 75 claim against the credit card company.

Out of interest did you do a chargeback on your card in the first place?
  • Yes we raised dispute with credit card they did charge back an when we received email stating refund would be given they charged debt back to credit card been trying to contact them since but on hold for several hours an then get cut off bank customer service just give alternate number an all Ryanair say is we refunded you it so frustrating but thanks for the suggestion

OP.  Is the Ryanair flight the one you mentioned on this thread? https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/77335745#Comment_77335745
    Did the flight operate?
  • Yes an yes it operated but this was early July and I received email from them saying full refund given and even when I still contact them on web chat staff say refund was given
  • If the flights went ahead I doubt you would get a refund. Did you get notification that the chargeback has been successful?  If so maybe Ryanair challenged it on the basis that the flights were operational?  You normally get told of this possibility though.  What did the bank say re your application for chargeback?
  • I know now they don’t refund and have changed policy but these flights were when restrictions were not lifted after lockdown I just don’t understand airline sending email confirming refund an like say still say they have refunded but bank says different. Thanks for the input it just frustrating as travel insurance would have payed but because I have the refund confirmation of airline they want me to chase this

It is strange that you managed to get Ryanair to confirm a refund when the flight operated.  As above, you wouldn't be entitled to one.

I'm in a similar situation, Ryanair Customer Services are saying I've had a refund via chargeback, however Ryanair appealed the chargeback, my bank have shown me copies of Ryanair appealing the chargeback.  Difference in my case is it was my flight was cancelled so I am due a refund.
  • I know it strange to get that email we got message inform of email from credit card asking if dispute resolved to which we replied yes as we had received email from Ryanair saying we would be refunded so bank put charge back on account to await refund to clear amount but no refund I just find it confusing that they still say they refunded us an give the date they supposedly did bank have not responded to messages

Could Ryanair be referring to the chargeback. Unfortunately, that was reversed but that may not be noted on their  records. They just see the chargeback amount going out.

Well the bottom line here kellie is "Are you entitled to a refund?"   If the flights did go ahead, which you haven't confirmed either way, then you are not entitled to a refund by airline but you may be by your insurance if FCO advice is covered.   Check your policy and if you are covered then push forward with your insurance claim.   You can explain that the emails you sent were erroneous, you can include bank statements to prove you didn't get a refund but the crucial thing is you have the correct insurance cover.   Forget about wondering why who said what - there is so much confusion around.
