Were we missold?

When we bought our new car, A Ford Ka+,1 year ago, we also bought a 3 year service plan, so far so good.
Last week we had the first 'interim service'
Now I discover that our car, according to Ford, only needs servicing every 2 years!
I think we have been had!  What do you think?

    Two years... or 18k miles.

I think you should probably have considered whether your expected mileage would make the service plan good value before deciding to buy it.

Who told you an interim service was needed?
What do the Ts and Cs of the service plan say?

Did you buy the plan from Ford? I would have thought the service plan was priced according to the number and type of Ford services anticipated over 3 years.

If it was an independent plan, then you should have checked what it covered. If it covers an annual service, I would take it in every year and have it serviced regardless. Two years always feels a bit long to me anyway.

Well it all depends on how much the service plan was and how many miles you do.

You cannot be 'miss-sold' a servicing plan.  Miss-sold has a specific meaning in relation to certain regulated financial products.  It is not a catch-all for being persuaded to buy something that you didn't need.  It was up to you to decide whether the plan was appropriate or not.  Anyone with any street smarts would double check anything being sold to them by a car salesman.

There is often a mismatch between service intervals and service plans. We had a Dacia, and bought a three year plan, which gave 3 services, with a limit of 30,000 miles and 36 months. Service intervals were 12,500 miles or 12 months. The plan would have given 3 services if we kept it under 10k a year, but as there was an unexpected change in circumstances and mileage shot up we only managed to get two.  It wasn't the end of the world, the extra work mileage paid for it in expenses, but it was annoying at the time.
