This is an “over the garden
fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a
little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start
each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or
what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put
your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!)
and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

[Very early!] Morning! Woke up with my ankle hurting and tossed and turned for a bit before admitting defeat and coming down for painkillers, tea and a bit of pizza bread. With some hummus. Because what you need for breakfast is garlic and lots of it. Happy to report the structure is up and surprisingly solid. The posts, edges and rafters are done, we have the purlins, a bit of concrete infill and the patio to do next. I sat out there for a long time last night gazing at it feeling all proud. And almost completely unscathed but not from injury, just from general body fall apartness, like the ankle.I can't see me doing much for the rest of the day besides a bit of gentle wandering round the internet and a lot of napping hopefully.Nanny, go wild with barbie, dinosaur outfit maybe? TA, not sure about acclimatised yet, sounds like you were busy enough to generate some heat yourself
Nelski, I see your netflix and snacks and think that's an awesome idea so will be copying you today! And thanks for all the 'don't hurt yourself wishes', I must have actually listened for a change
Hey all readers along, stay safe and have a mellifluous Monday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi13 -
Morning to all who follow, I'm also up super early for painkillers and a cuppa, just a bit of general aching though.Budge up on the house arrest lockdown bench, I'll be there at 6pm. Perhaps our resident builder (taff, when feeling better ) could elongate it, either that or I may have to go back on the dietI ran out of steam yesterday after my cleaning/ cooking session and didn't get round to sorting out Barbie, poor thing she's still naked, so I will try again today. Some winter togs should be just the ticket, I'm starting with a long cloak, sheepskin hat and matching handmuff. I did however put the table up, find the material and the sewing machine is at the ready, so no excuse today.DGS fell off his scooter this weekend and hurt his hand, he's already fallen off his bike during the summer and wrecked that, so it seems that he has joined the clumsy club. It's obviously a family trait, DM used to fall down the stairs regularly, I was always scraping some part of my anatomy, knees and face being the objects of choice and DD was forever falling off the horse when out riding. I thought DGS would miss it as he's a boy, but no such luck. The curry was very nice yesterday ( sorry Nels I forgot to say that tea would be at 4pm, I shall send you some via the post ) and there is enough for another dinner. The bread and butter pudding was a success, I made it with hazelnut chocolate spread and a banana custard..... mmmmmmm ! Tea tonight will be hot dogs and a rice side salad, might even force myself to eat some more of the puddingRight the painkillers have kicked in so I will try to have another hour in bed. Be back later to catch up on everyone's news.Take care all, stay safe and sane on the bench.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13

Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
taff - thanks for starting us off x
Still dark, cool but not quite so blustery, dry underfoot.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast beef, roasties, mash, swede, carrots, broc, HG green beans, peas, yorkshires and gravy - delicious it was too and some LO's - enough for another meal - good job as the meat was quite expensive. Tonight will be chicken pie, mash and peas with gravy for the menfolk, I'll be having baked fish and veg.
Weekend was quiet - we'll see what the working week has instore.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting Taff, sorry to read you've hurt your ankle, you'll have to rest it a bit.Seems to be dry here, not full daylight yet, but it looks like a fine day is on the cards. We enjoyed our few days in Berwick, and we're hoping to go to the lake District later thiis week for 5 days, unless anything changes. We've got one more trip planned after that, then the caravan will be put to bed for the winter. At least we've managed a few trips .There's just general house stuff happening here today, nowt exciting.Hope everyone has a good Monday anyway, take care folks.12

Morning folks and thanks for the super early start TAFF. Brr my phone said 3 deg, but feels like 2 deg, when I first got up. Then we are forecast to hit 17 deg this afternoon! I might resume my clearance of the front garden after enormous rose thorns stopped play last week.
TAFF and NAN take it easy today and nurse those injuries and NAN sorry you are now joining us on the lockdown bench. We've been on it so long it's become a way of life now but I do miss meeting up with my buddies for our little trips and meals out.
I got my voiles made and new pole up yesterday and fashioned some tie backs out of an old long "pearl" necklace. It's only taken me 11 months to get round to "dressing" the new bathroom window! As Sparkle has an obsession with sitting on the window cill I am wondering how long it will be before she manages to get her claws stuck in them and brings the whole lot down!
It's soup making this morning as my stocks in the freezer are dwindling. Probably lentil and bacon as that's still my favourite. Other than that it's a no cooking day as dinner will be the leftover chicken and warmed up veg from yesterday.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care one and all and stay sane and safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Morning All
We've had glorious weather for the last few days but it looks like it will break today. The garden is all tidy, the sweet peas are down as are the hanging baskets, they were beginning to look quite sad with the overnight frosts. I did buy a huge pot yesterday to put the acer in, it kept falling over so now has a lovely new home - just need it to survive the winter.
Well done taff, you've worked hard. Look after that ankle.
Glad you enjoyed Berwick Scarlet, I really like it along that coast.
I'm really enjoying this long weekend, I've caught up with a few people which has been nice but will have a quiet day today ready for the mayhem again tomorrow. Washing up to date and ironing done, time to relax!
Happy Monday everyone, take care. XX12 -
Morning all My goodness we have a lot of early risers this morning I could have stayed in bed for another few hours but there is much excitement to be had in the Bella house today not only am i going shopping but i am having a new stair and landing carpet laid .
Over the weekend our holiday has been fully cancelled we have looked for something else but nowhere that we can go has fired our imagination so i think we will just try to have a few days in the uk if that's possible
DD2 wedding is so close now i need to go and order her bouquet she is marrying in a London Borough so hopefully we can avoid local lockdown for 2 weeks .
Right better get a shifty on i need to pace myself for the days excitement
Taff hope the ankle feels better try to rest up today
Nanny hope Barbie gets some clothes today its feeling decidedly chilly today
Dinner tonight sausage n mash
Have a good day whatever you are up to xSlava Ukraini12 -
Morning
Someone must have set the OS daily alarm clock a bit early this morning I was also up at 5 and boy was it cold.
Washing day today so the bedding is finally in after me putting it off for a while as my most hated job. The mop was tested yesterday and did what it said it would so was a happy bunny (stop sniggering at the back)
nanny sorry you're joining us on the prison bench maybe you could run us up some nice cushions its going to get uncomfortable if we are on for 6 months of it and don't mention the potential for piles
taff enjoy the netflix day you deserve it
Food will be pan fried basa fillets with a chilli and garlic salsa and crushed potatoes. Not tried basa before but as its considerably cheaper than my usual cod it was worth a try ....needs must and all that.
So today will be building myself to put the bedding back on oh joy
Have a good day all

Morning everyone - you've all been up early this morning! I don't start work till 12 today so I'm going to get some tidying done and the bathrooms cleaned.
It was a lovely afternoon yesterday, so I got the grass cut front and back, the plants tidied up at the back and weeds pulled out. And had time to sit and read my paper for a bit.
I have quite a few green tomatoes outside - is it too late for them to turn red now?
It's the first time I've tried to grow them.
Better get on, hope everyone has a good day12 -
Good morning folks. For once I'm not in the up early club though I tossed and turned a lot during the night. Life's been a tad uncomfortable as I react badly to ABs. I haven't got any infection but the dental surgeon prescribed them as a prophylactic. The jaw is healing, swelling is almost gone and things are just tender now.TAFF - are you Builder Bob's first cousin? 😱😱
Things are quiet, lots of lockdown students have escaped home! They just packed up and left halls. Can't say I blame them too much. Living cooped up with complete strangers and not allowed out sounds more like a prison than university.Later I'll be sitting with DM as she goes through another photo album. We've moved on from her grandparents, through past her wedding in 1949 and now onto the birth of my brother and I. On the way she detoured to read through a birthday book I compiled for her 75th birthday in 2003. All her friends and family contributed pages of memories and photos for it. At the time it gave her great joy, this weekend she made a list of 35 of the people who have since died. Sucked the joy right out! 😂
Happy Monday to all.12
