Furlough pay for workers receiving state pension

Hello there
My 69 year old mother still had a job, but was furloughed when she had to shield back in March. She receives a state pension
Her employer furloughed her and successfully applied for, and has paid her furlough pay. She is still furloughed and her employer has contacted her to say they have been contacted and she has to pay it all back?.
Please can anyone advise?
