So what you are saying is you are still happy to change parts without checking the original part is faulty first?JustAnotherSaver said:I don't know if you mean this car or all cars but if you mean I won't get above manufacturer MPG in any and every car then that's incorrect. I did it consistently in my previous car and actually have done in most cars I've owned. The only exception has been my wife's current car.
If research dictates that an issue has a fair chance of being caused by XYZ and XYZ doesn't cost too much to replace and is fairly easy to do so then I'll do that. If it could be 1 of 100 things and they're costly then I may not.I know you think i'll probably not say this but i'll play along - that's exactly what i'm saying. Now unlike the way you word it - which is like i'm just going to replace the entire engine because i woke up feeling like it today, there is an actual issue. The temp needle barely budges. Now why that is is unknown but i haven't just woken up and decided to change some parts as you imply.I did plenty of reading about it and absolutely everything bar none comes back to the water thermostat (as i expected) but many saying oil cooler stat is the cause. Of those i read saying water stat, most seemed to be just suggesting it rather than experiencing it themselves. Of those who've experienced it, many changed the water stat thinking it would fix it but then found that it didn't - it was only fixed when they changed the oil cooler stat.So based on that info and the price, i have decided its worth a go if i feel it's accessible and i can do it.It's like when my wifes car had starting issues. The mechanic i spoke to flat out said change the battery despite it having been changed 12 months previous. He wouldn't entertain the idea that it may be something else and showed lack of interest. No doubt i'd have been billed for a new battery as well as plugging in diagnostics (even though i could do that bit myself) and it still wouldn't have been fixed.Since it was a £15 crankshaft sensor, as diagnosed as the likely cause on this forum.0
