  • Download and install Itunes :) That has all software you need for your laptop to recognised your ipod. Once you've set up itunes, (leave it open) and plug in your ipod. Wait a bit and it should all pop up!

If you've already got that installed, make sure the USB port worksa nd also that the ipod is turned on when plugge din

Tried that and still no go, it comes up new hardware found ipod then a box appears on the screen saying cannot install hardware, an error occurred during installation of device, data invalid
  • *racks brains*..

So found new hardware, error occured during installation..

    hmmm

Right mouse click My computer and click manage. Click on device manager.

Any yellow question marks saying "other devices" with a + next to it? If so expand it by clicking the plus. If there are any devices, right mouse click and uninstall/delete them.

Then restart the laptop, then plug it in again.. just click next to any options.

Once again do other things work in the same usb port? and is the ipod charged?

Yes there is a yellow question mark expanded it and there is another question mark with a exclamation mark on it with the word ipod
  • very weird, XP should find it as an external memory device without any software or drivers.

tried ipod on another laptop and it worked fine so it must be my laptop settings or something, it shows in the taskbar when I plug the ipod in, then a box comes up on screen saying an error occurred during the instalation of device, the data is invalid click finish to close wizard, I click finish and that's that.
