Insurance query - change of keeper
The timeline is as follows:
1. I gave my car to my father (and no longer drive or have access to it and am not a named driver on the policy) but we couldn't find the V5C so I couldn't immediately change the registered keeper to him
Insurance quotes where he was the main driver and not the registered keeper were a lot more expensive than if he was the main driver and the keeper, eventually I found one which was only £40 more so we went with that and ordered a replacement V5C.
We didn't change the keeper immediately once we had the replacement V5C as a) the insurance company would probably have charged us an amendment fee b) it didn't seem to matter otherwise
2. This year the plan was to change the registered keeper to him but now the quotes are the other way around! Where he is the main driver and not the registered keeper are less than if he is the main driver and is the registered keeper! The other thing I had to change in the questionnaire was when he acquired the car (to now as now is when the V5C is being transferred over to him)
Are the quotes coming back higher because he is "acquiring" the car now? Any other suggestions - the cheapest one where he is not the keeper goes up more than a £100 when he is the keeper!
