Hi All
I have a problem with easyJet flights due to COVID-19
Initially due to fly to Jersey in April 2020 but all travel cancelled due to pandemic I rearranged flights to 25 September and paid approximately £80 extra to change dates, this flight was cancelled by easyJet so moved flights back to 2nd October ( no charge) From 29th September the state of Jersey are introducing a 14 day mandatory self isolation for anyone travelling from northwest England , as we were only going for a weekend that would mean isolating for the whole trip. EasyJet want another £128 to move flights to March 2021 bringing the flight costs to over £300 for flights which are currently available for £93. They refuse to give any refund other than £26 airports taxes. Is this right as I find myself in this situation due to initial COVID travel ban and then easyJet cancelling my flights for September when no isolation requirements in place on Jersey.
Any help or thoughts much appreciated thanks

It is right, airlines make it clear in their terms that they are not responsible for entry requirements.

Speak to your travel insurers. In hindsight if they cancelled the September flight you should have got the cash refund, but I suppose this isnt helpful now.
  • You must be upset to lose the money after booking. It is very strange as when easyjet changed my flight to Ibiza (just by a few hours, still to same place on the same day) they offered a full refund. There were also options to swap to another flight or have a credit. They could not have been nicer so it's strange if you were refused a refund when they cancelled the flight?
Was the £80 because the swap had been made to more expensive flight/s? Are all the figures in the post given as per single flight? You've said easyJet want £128 to move the flights - are they preventing or advising you not to fly in October? Do they not want you to fly on your booked trip? Seems like taking the £26 in taxes back, which would bring the flights down to £67 would be your best option.
It would be totally unreasonable for easyJet not to give you a refund for the cancelled flight. That would be unreasonable. Vice versa if you cancel it would be hard to see why you would get a refund. You chose to book another flight, and then cancel because the length of your trip makes it unviable when it is still available? Can you help me to understand why this would be easyJet's liability?
None of this is to in any way say that it wouldn't be incredibly frustrating. At least you can get new flights for just £67 extra now, which is less than you paid for the charges previously.
  • it is more of a frustration rant and a sense of injustice. The £80 paid was because of higher price to fly in September. However no credit given to fly in March when flights cheaper, In hind sight it would have been better to have got a refund when easyJet cancelled the flight in September, but just delaying the trip by a week seemed like a decent option at the time. I am not blaming easyJet for the COVID situation it’s just the fact that they are effectively charging over 3 times the cost for the flights in March, they happy to charge extra when flights dearer but unwilling to give credit when they are cheaper and it’s this that I find hard to accept. I know the COVID situation is beyond anyones control
